~a note from the author~ "Pain, suffering, and distrust — together they can make an extremely dangerous combination. The scariest dangers we face are not what we face physically, but those we fight within ourselves. This is a lesson I learned much sooner than most. Human anatomy is a miraculous thing. It has the power to heal itself from the most devastating diseases, but at the same time, it has the power to eat away at our very own soul. The body is a personally operated machine. It is made up of mechanics that are far more complex than anything we as humans could create ourselves. We are the most diverse creations on Earth, yet many of us have not even begun to realize our own strengths and weaknesses. Allow me to take you through my medical journey and show you how powerful the human body can be. If we listen to our bodies, they will tell us when we are in the most dangerous situations we have ever faced."

"I saw specialist after specialist, and had test after test preformed all with the same answer “no findings”. Every time the words “no findings” would appear, my heart would sink to the lowest depths of my soul. I truly began to wonder if I was soon to see the end of my short life. The pain began to grow more excruciating. It formed itself in an encircling band around my head. One moment it was like a million knives shoved into my head at once. The next moment it was like a thousand volts of electricity were coursed through my brain. My mind was in a million places, and the thought of being so ill and not having an answer only made my faith crumble drastically."

Meet the Author

Nathan Wells is a native of East Tennessee. He has lived his entire life in Lenoir City. He has spent his life working on bettering his community in numerous organizations he has been involved in. His past work is mainly focused on animal welfare and fighting against youth obesity in Tennessee. He is a passionate worker in educating youth about the dangers of obesity, anorexia, drugs, and alcohol state wide.

His entire school career he was involved in many youth development organizations including Future Business Leaders of America, Health Occupations Students of America, Future Farmers of America, and his self-organized group Rescue the Animals Youth Organization which was a group of several youth who raised funds by selling treats to help pet owners who didn’t have efficient funds to pay for their vet bills.

Today, Nathan considers that his greatest work was being a Tennessee 4-H’er. He served many roles, including his three years on Tennessee State 4-H Council. Other than his work in the various youth development clubs he is involved in, Nathan is very active at his church Silver Ridge Baptist Church.

Nathan has served at the church as pianist and youth activities director, which coincidentally is the church that his father pastors at. Nathan, when not working on one of those things, enjoys going outdoors, jogging, traveling, and golfing. He is currently working on his pre-medical and psychology degrees, and he later plans on going to medical school.

Nathan now tells his story to all who are willing to listen. He tells everyone that his greatest accomplishment in life was going through 189 days of a life-threatening illness. He tells that the accomplishment simply comes from surviving, for survival is the accomplishment we all search for in this life.
