Overview

Kids will take a wild and wonderful ride in Roxie Munro’s super aMAZEment park, where each attraction is an eye-popping maze that connects to another on the next page. Go from an Enchanted Castle to Dinosaur Daze, from the Magic Garden to Pirates’ Cove. Munro offers children two ways to enjoy their visit: they can travel on the easier Toot-Toot Train or choose the harder, but even more entertaining maze journey. To make things even more delightfully challenging, every spread features a man with three balloons, an ice-cream stand, and students on a class trip that eagle-eyed young solvers can search for.

Publishers Weekly
Roxie Munro adds to her amazing mazes with a roller coaster, enchanted castle, pirate's cover and more in Amazement Park: 12 Wild Mazes. The intricate spreads introduce some of the best-loved amusements for kids, from the food court to a dinosaur daze. An answer key follows for those who get stumped. (Apr.) K-Gr 3-Fans of Munro's Mazescapes (North-South, 2001) will be pleased to find 12 new mazes to navigate. The book starts with a page of rules, where readers learn that there are two ways to get through the park. The Toot-Toot Train can take visitors along the easy route; the more complicated journey twists and turns through all of the rides and attractions. All mazes lead from one page to the next and then back again to the first one. On each spread, park goers can also scout out a man with three balloons, an ice-cream stand, and Mrs. McCourt and her class, who are shown on the title page, entering the park. The mazes do get tricky and sometimes completely confusing, but an answer key is included for those who get stuck. The cartoon art is eye-catching and colorful; however, occasionally parts of the mazes get lost in the gutter, making the journey a little frustrating. This title may have a short life span on library shelves as mapping the path with a marker or crayon will be very tempting to children who want to see where they have been. Still, this is a fun purchase for puzzle fans.-Julie Roach, Watertown Free Public Library, MA Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
Kirkus Reviews
Munro's latest maze-craze offering expands upon the concept of her earlier work, Mazescapes (2001). This time, readers have an aerial view of an amusement park and are instructed to wind their way through the Gordian knot of paths. En route, readers are encouraged to locate Mrs. McCourt and her class and search out the ice cream stand and balloon man tucked into every scene. For younger readers-or those with slightly lower frustration levels-Munro provides an easier path through the park via a red train and its tracks. The twelve mazes cover typical amusement park attractions. From wild roller coaster rides and far-out space travel to dinosaur landscapes, Munro's mazes offer an intriguing venue for nearly every taste. Intricate, colored-ink illustrations beguile the eye with their exquisite attention to detail. Munro's collection of brainteasers, which are interesting to peruse-as well as a healthy challenge to maze enthusiasts-offer readers many hours of interactive enjoyment. An answer key is provided in the end pages. (Picture book. 6+)
