I loved Amazing Agent Luna. The first volume has a lot in it. If you're skeptical about buying the first volume, you can check it out on gomanga.com. There's a preview there. I really recommend this manga. It's a wonderful story.

Among the world of comics, there is a small, but growing, number of English-language titles that are produced here in America in the vein of manga. They are no less a part of the manga genre, but are created in America and not Japan. One such series I have recently started is the first volume of the Amazing Agent Luna series. Think of the earlier 2000's series Alias , but a lot less sexy and violent. Essentially, the protagonist, Luna, is a laboratory-grown human female that was created and raised to be the height of human potential. She is the “perfect” secret agent, who works for a covert group of the US government that makes the CIA look like amateurs. Unfortunately, Luna is about to face the greatest challenge of her fifteen years of life: high school. For Luna, this is scarier than for any other fifteen year old girl, as she has no social skills whatsoever. Despite this, she is the only agent who can realistically be placed at a prestigious high school attended by the children of international political figures. Along with her control agent, and an agency psychiatrist, who pose as her mom and dad (we eventually find this isn't entirely a lie, from what I saw on the internet), she will infiltrate the school to learn of and thwart the schemes of a rogue state bent on terrorism. While the premise is exciting, there are rarely any action scenes in the first volume. They are cool when they are there, but, like with much anime and manga, it is more of a “slice of life” format. The subplots in such genres seem to be just as important, and in some episodes and issues, more important, than the main plot. What I liked was that the spy stuff was toned down, and we didn't have any “kick butt” characters. Oh, Luna WILL mess you up six ways from Sunday if you give her cause (which takes a lot since she's so nice), but she is a young girl just navigating high school. That is the main story, and why I enjoy this so much. There is no (at least so far) political commentary or what not. It's just a coming of age story with some cool action scenes thrown in. Definitely Recommended.
