Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 3-5-Done in a format similar to the ``Eyewitness'' series (Knopf), this is a colorful and fairly well-done picture book. However, although the illustrations are well labeled, the perspectives are often rather confusing. One might also quibble with the misleading title, which implies that a fly, snail, snake, and whale (to name a few) are all part of the same animal family. The index is somewhat selective, e.g., ``feathers'' is included, but ``flea'' is not. In general, parts rather than the whole body of a creature are examined, with more space devoted to its more interesting features (e.g., the eye of a fly or the ear of an elephant). Complaints aside, the volume does offer helpful and creatively presented bits of information.-Janet O'Brien, Mount Pleasant Public Library, Pleasantville, NY
