Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
With its unique pattern of spots, long neck and long legs, the giraffe is a most interesting animal. This text begins with the general description of the giraffe and its features, and then continues with the giraffe's habitat and diet. Readers will find information about its life and characteristics and look at the many fantastic, close-up, color photographs that are a part of every layout. The informational text also utilizes captions for the some of the pictures and colored bold print for content vocabulary. Definitions for the select vocabulary are found toward the bottom of the page. Included in the book is a pourquoi tale that summarizes why the giraffe has a long neck. For more information about the giraffe, there is a short list of additional books and websites to explore. Those readers wishing to learn about different animals may find the other books in the "Amazing Animals" series enjoyable and interesting too. The books in the series have a similar format and equally wonderful color photographs. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
From the Publisher
.the "Amazing Animals" series will attract both beginning and struggling readers. The large, beautiful photos on each spread include vivid shots of animals in action as well as close-ups of their faces. Photo captions consistently add interesting animal facts, and occasional vocabulary words are defined at the bottom of the pages, adding to the clean, appealing layout. In addition to the engaging photos, the text is laid out in a large, easy-to-read font. The text, although made up of simple sentences, conveys plenty of interesting information.
