Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"...What it must have been like in Noah's Ark."--Kirkus Reviews

"The appealing, soft-focus pen-and-ink and watercolor artwork is accurately rendered. A fascinating peek at the diversity of nature." --School Library Journal

School Library Journal
Gr 1-3-A lively look at how different animals live, reproduce, and deal with danger. Catchy rhymes and gentle illustrations introduce a wide range of creatures. A page devoted to the importance of water shows that ``some animals are swimmers'' fish, tadpoles, newt, ``others like to dive'' duck, beetles, ``and some perch over water'' bird, mouse, bee, ``or sit carefully where it's dry'' cat. Movement through the air, camouflage, and shelter construction are included. The production of feces and the unavoidable fact that ``sometimes life is brutally stopped-one animal catches another and eats it up'' are handled sensitively. The predators' expressions lack any trace of cruelty or viciousness and the prey show no signs of suffering. The appealing, soft-focus pen-and-ink and watercolor artwork is accurately rendered. A fascinating peek at the diversity of nature.-Lisa Wu Stowe, Great Neck Library, NY

Some animals are swimmers, others like to dive,
And some perch over water or sit carefully where it's dry.
Who glides? Who flies? Who flutters in the air?
And who would rather disappear deep down inside a lair?
