LAN SLUDER is an Asheville native. A former business newspaper editor in New Orleans, magazine editor and publisher and advertising agency owner, Sluder is the author of more than a dozen books on travel and retirement including Fodor’s Belize, Easy Belize, Frommer’s Best Beach Vacations: Carolinas and Georgia and Living Abroad in Belize. He has contributed to many newspapers and magazines including The New York Times, Caribbean Travel & Life, Where to Retire, Chicago Tribune, Bangkok Post, Charlotte Observer, Toronto Globe & Mail and St. Petersburg Times. Sluder and his wife, Sheila M. Lambert, an attorney, live on a mountain farm near Asheville, a part of which has been in his family since the mid-1800s. He and his wife have two children, Rose Lambert-Sluder (who contributed many photos to Amazing Asheville) and Brooks Lambert-Sluder.
