Children's Literature - Phyllis J. Perry
One of sixteen titles in "Ripley's Believe it or Not" series, this book contains a collection of incredible facts about many different natural phenomena on our planet. There are a host of interesting and seemingly unrelated facts about our earth, including how it increases in weight by about 3,000 tons a year because of meteorites crashing into it, and how New York is closer to the center of the Earth than it is to Honolulu. There is information about cave dwellers, earthquakes, volcanoes, mountain peaks, deserts, lightning strikes, and hailstones. Included are details of a baby born in a tree during a flood, and a Jack Russell dog that kayaks, windsurfs, and enjoys parachute jumping. Some of the facts are bizarre, some amusing, and most startling. Those who love to read miscellaneous fascinating facts will be happily entertained. The thirty-six page book is illustrated with color photographs and contains an index. Reviewer: Phyllis J. Perry
