Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Connecting the dots is both fun and educational when each picture turns out to be an amazing insect. And some of these insects are truly amazing. For example, the Hummingbird Clearwing Moth, which lives in Southern Canada and the Northern U.S., flies during the day and sips nectar just like a hummingbird. It has a greenish yellow body with a purple-brown tail and is often mistaken for a bird or large bumblebee. The Snow Flea, which is black and velvety gray and measures about 1/16 of an inch, eats microscopic mold and algae. Not really a flea, this insect is so named for its ability to jump. Millions of these tiny Snow Fleas travel together, moving over the ground "like a dark wave." This title, which is the size of a coloring book, contains 38 connect-the-dot insect pictures and scientific information about each entry. Many bug-loving children will be delighted to see their bugs take shape. Unfortunately, the book is not packaged in a child-friendly binder format so it does not lie flat while readers connect-the-dots and color their masterpieces. 2003, Sterling Publishing Company,
