Editorial Reviews

Ken Sharp
"While Wilkerson's love and admiration for Townshend's talent is evident on each page, the author aims and succeeds in presenting a well-balanced portrait of the Who visionary, warts and all. The book is unflinching in its account of the artist's battles with booze and drugs, his continual search for spiritual enlightenment guided by the teachings of Meher Baba and the legendary Daltrey-Townshend battles (one which led Townshend being sent to the hospital after taking a savage blow to the head from Daltrey during the 1973 Quadrophenia rehearsal sessions). Wilkerson also lends incisive coverage of some of the more controversial events in the artist's life including the erroneous reports of Townshend's homosexuality and the 2003 charges of suspicion of viewing child porn on the Internet, for which he has been exonerated."
'Retro-Active' columnist, Friday Morning Quarterback
The Rocky Mountain News
"A person who's a big enough fan to do such a project would often be an unlikely candidate to get it right. But Wilkerson is relentless, putting albums, songs, quotes, shows and eras in context. Literally hundreds of interviews and reviews are diced and rearranged to give the most exacting, detailed study of his life we'll likely get until Townshend releases his own autobiography - and maybe not even then."

    A reviewer

My fiancé first brought this book to my attention when we were shopping in a local music store. In the local author section, there were two copies of 'Amazing Journey' by Mark Wilkerson. My fiancé said he was interested in reading the book, so I bought it for him as a gift. Needless to say, I read the work after he finished it. The book is well-written and articulate, and I am amazed at how much research the author incorporated into his work. Before I read 'Amazing Journey,' I must admit that I knew nothing about Pete Townshend (aside from the fact that he was in The Who). Afterward, I gained a great wealth of knowledge on the musician, his solo projects, and The Who. I highly recommend 'Amazing Journey' to anyone who is an avid fan of Pete Townshend or someone who is just getting to know him.

    The best Townshend bio yet!

As a long-time Pete Townshend and The Who fanatic, I can tell you that this book is excellent. It's a thorough, easy to read, well-written account that covers Pete's entire career and is laced with interesting and little-known facts mined from thousands of sources. Many of those sources are listed as footnotes, so if you want to know from where the author got a quote or, more importantly, what the REST of the quote was, just go to the bottom of the page. The footnotes themselves are great! Also, of great importance to me is that the author, while clearly a Townshend fan, keeps his opinions OUT of this bio. He gives us just the facts. Pete's life, like his work, is a fascinating subject and any music lover would learn from this book and enjoy it. Andrew G.
