Overview

Kids really will amaze their friends and family members with the mosaic-making skills they learn from this attractive book. Using glue, paper, shells, buttons, foil, and even peas and beans, they can create a picture--then go one step further and make a fine looking mosaic frame for it! They'll also discover how to transform an ordinary shoe box into an ornate treasure chest, learn how to make imaginative mobiles of fish and other animals, and create pictures they can hang in their rooms. Author and illustrator Sarah Kelly presents simple, step-by-step instructions for 12 projects, along with illustrations that show and explain everything a beginning mosaic artist needs to know. Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Tile mosaics can be found in many places throughout the world. Readers will be treated to a slightly different approach in this book, as all the mosaics are made from cut paper. Suddenly you will have a reason to save all kinds of shiny candy wrappers and colorful wrapping paper. The author carefully explains the techniques related to the projects at the beginning and then explains special details for each individual project. There are fourteen activities with templates included for the specific shapes needed. Some are lovely pictures for hanging; others are mobiles, masks, photo or artwork frames, bookmarks and boxes. This will be a lovely addition to your craft library. Happy snipping! 2000, Barron's Educational Series, $8.95. Ages 8 up. Reviewer: Barbara Youngblood
