She died mysteriously before she was forty. Yet in the last decade of her life Amelia Earhart soared from obscurity to fame as the best-known female aviator in the world. She set record after record—among them, the first trans-Atlantic solo flight by a woman, a flight that launched Earhart on a double career as a fighter for women's rights and a tireless crusader for commercial air travel. Doris L. Rich's exhaustively researched biography downplays the “What Happened to Amelia Earhart?” myth by disclosing who Amelia Earhart really was: a woman of three centuries, born in the nineteenth, pioneering in the twentieth, and advocating ideals and dreams relevant to the twenty-first.

I am a high school sophomore student and I chose to read this book for my research project. This book was very confusing to read. It had an extended amount of unnecessary information; and made it very hard to keep up. I had to re-read a lot of chapters to actually understand what the author was trying to explain. The author should have shortened information to make it easier to understand. If the author reduced information, this book could have been much more interesting to read. Although all of this information helped me with my research project, it also helped me know the life of Amelia Earhart a little better. Although this book was not very interesting to read, it showed me to be self-determined and to dream big like Amelia because the sky is the limit.
I am a high school sophomore and I chose to read this book for my research project. Because of the immense details the author gives the book can be quite confusing. There are so many people the author wrote about that I had to go back a few times and re-read passages to find out who the author was talking about. Because of the immense details the book often got quite boring at times. This made me dread reading this book and was not motivated to read it at all. If the author were to have shorten the details on many people and their lives the book would’ve been much more interesting therefore making it easier and much more pleasurable to read. I was quite offended at how the author wrote about Amelia and how she focused on other characters instead of her. Amelia Earhart is one of the many women I look up to and I feel the author portrayed her accomplishments as mere satisfactory and were not seen as a captivating experience. I would not recommend this book for those looking for a good read.
I am a high school sophomore and I chose to read this book for my research project. Though reading this book helped me immensely on my project, there was so much information that it caused me to get bored easily. This also led to the book being hard to understand at times. As a reader, I wasn’t excited when I opened my book to read. The information the author gives us about Amelia was interesting and helped me on my report but too much information caused it to be a not so fun read. Though I did not enjoy reading this book, I recommend this to anyone who is doing a research project because it gives you every single detail of her life. While writing my report, I had the perfect quotes and answers that were asked from me. If you can handle the excess information, this book will help you learn about Amelia’s life. I learned about her family, her life as a pilot, and even the opinions people have on how she may have died. I wouldn’t want to read this book for fun again but it did help me realize how much of a role model and great person she was.
I found this book to be boring and not particularly helpful. It goes into far to much detail about things that aren't really that significant. It might be beneficial to choose another book, especially if you are trying to write an academic essay.
Amelia Earhart was known as a world famous pilot, until this book came along. Though the book really goes into detail, it goes on about people who had almost ntohing to do with her life. I fould the book a tad bit long and too confusing. Overall, I find a different book on Amealia Earhart
