Amelia would go on to set major aviation records—she was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and the first person to cross it twice by air. In 1937, Amelia set out on a flight around the world she belived would be the grand achievement of her aviation career. Three-quarters of the way around the globe, Amelia disappeared in the Pacific Ocean on July 2, 1937, never to be seen again. Although her own story ended too quickly, she inspired women everywhere to reach goals previously undreamed of.
