Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Meagan Albright
Amelia delights audiences with her 14 "resolution[s]-to-be-kept-for-sure" in the latest installment in the "Amelia" series. Each page is jammed full of drawings and quirky insights into the inner workings of a middle-schooler's mind. The only potential problem with this book is the subtitle "except all resolutions absolutely 100% made, worked at, and kept by Amelia for fun all year long!" The word except does not make sense in this context, as the book is full of resolutions that she intends to keep. Perhaps expect was the intended word choice. Many of Amelia's resolutions focus on literacy, friendship, family, and individuality. She is a positive influence on young readers, encouraging them to create unique resolutions rather than "the kinds of resolutions that everyone makes and no one keeps, like promising not to eat any more junk food or to be nicer to my incredibly annoying sister". This book is cute, fun, and sure to be a hit with young readers.
