I am a big fan of this author. His stories feature great character back stories and a LOT of technical detail which is a hallmark of many of my favorite authors. In this, the second book of the America One series, Ryan Richmond's company gets his ship into space and starts mining an asteroid.
The book is very timely on two fronts. NASA has made news recently with their discussion about pulling an asteroid into orbit around the moon just as this book comes out. Government agencies in the book violate civil liberties in this book in ways very similar to our current discussion on gun control and executive powers.
If you do not like a book rich in detail you can skip the detailed accounts of space travel to focus on the main story but in my opinion you lose out on a lot of interesting information.
If you are looking for a quick weekend read or an action packed adventure that is adrenaline from beginning to end you would be better off looking into novels of that genre because that is not this. There are some very good action scenes though and I particularly enjoyed the main character taking jabs at the rapacious government officials in this book.
