Meet the Author

Suzan-Lori Parks

One of the contemporary American theater's most innovative wordsmiths. Her plays include: Topdog/Underdog (2002 Pulitzer Prize for Drama), In the Blood (2000 Pulitzer-nominee), Fucking A, Venus (OBIE Award), The America Play and Imperceptible Mutabilities in the Third Kingdom (OBIE Award, Best New American Play). She is also a screenwriter, novelist, and MacArthur "Genius" grantee.

In our interview with Parks, we asked her to share three fun facts about herself. She replied:

1. Yes, my hair is real—I grew it myself.

2. I went to secretarial school to learn how to type.

3. I'm a yoga devotee.

Her first feature film was 1996's Girl 6, directed by Spike Lee.

She lives in Los Angeles, California, with her husband, blues musician Paul Scher, and their pit bull, Lambchop.
