Overview

WITH THE ECONOMY IN FREE FALL AND MILLIONS THROWN OUT OF WORK, AMERICA’S FRAGILE DEMOCRACY COLLAPSES.

The federal government is left powerless, police and military forces disband, and a once-proud America descends into lawless anarchy. Cities empty. Looting, violence and murder quickly become the norm. And desperate citizens are left to fight for their very survival.

Amid the chaos, one teenager finds himself homeless and alone, striving to stay alive on the outskirts of a crumbling Washington, D.C. Forced to adapt by the constant threat of starvation and violence, the young man finds himself developing survival skills he never imagined needing and a moral sense that gives meaning to his struggle.

American Apocalypse is a riveting coming-of-age story where one man, against all odds, must find the will to live and, in turn, become a fledgling force of justice.

    A must read.

In this first book in the series we meet an unlikely protagonist. The first few pages introduce us to an IT weenie who is turned into a vigilante by the results of the recent financial meltdown. It's a nonstop action packed ride from there to the last page. You're going to hate having to wait for the next in the series! Better start reading in the morning if you want a good nights rest. Once you start you will not put it down.

    An interesting story line

This book is the first of a series based on the adventures of a fictional character in an American collapse which begins pretty much like the mess we are in now. The hero (more an anti-hero) is obnoxious and borderline sociopathic, but the situations are realistic given the premises of the book and some of the other characters are more sympathetic. In the sequel, titled American Apocalypse Wastelands, a new character is introduced who imagines herself to be (and maybe actually is) the Norse goddess Freya. She has supernatural or at least paranormal powers. Her introduction near the end of the second book hints that the author may be shifting genres from post-Apocalyptic to fantasy. A neat trick if he can do it. He has me hooked so far and I'll certainly download the next one.

    Hang on for the ride!

If you're an action junkie that loves a dark anti-hero, you will not be able to put this one down. This is not a meditation on the darkness of man or a 'how-to' guide for surviving economic collapse. It's an action-packed adventure, set in a dystopian future where worldwide depression grinds away the underpinnings of American civilization. Gardener is the protagonist, an anti-hero that loses everything and builds a new life protecting his new 'family' and bringing vengeance against the evil-doers who prey on the remains of society. This book is a fantastic page-turner, so don't make any plans for awhile once you start reading.
