The fourth month of the war and the North was certain the rebellion would be put down quickly. The article on Congress adjourning to go watch the battle was interesting. Many organized picnics. Instead of the war ending quickly, the North was shocked and routed at Bull Run, and many politicians realized war was no picnic and was not a spectator sport. It is interesting reading the reaction to the loss, and also how Stonewall Jackson got his name.
