Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
The American Diabetes Association intends this volume to be the authoritative resource for learning about the latest advances in diabetes research and treatment. This fifth edition has more chapters than the previous edition. They are grouped into eight sections and are shorter and more focused on specific aspects of diabetes. New chapters cover women's and men's health and the effects of the disease on mental health. There are updates on health insurance and new blood glucose technology. In addition to the basic chapters on type 1 and type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes, a new section, "Life with Diabetes," contains chapters on family life; children with diabetes; and dealing with diabetes at work, at school, or when traveling. Chapters contain definition boxes for technical terms, along with more facts and diabetes-related tips. A "Resources" section features sample forms and organizational information. VERDICT Despite the comprehensive list of organizations in the "Resources" section, additional resources—such as books or magazines for those seeking further information on topics such as diabetes-friendly recipes or exercise—are not listed. Still, this well-organized and straightforward book will again serve as the go-to resource for anyone who needs information about diabetes. Recommended for public libraries and health sciences collections.—Rebecca Raszewski, Univ. of Illinois at Chicago Lib.

A Must Read For All Diabetics!!

The American Diabetes Association Complete Guide to Diabetes is great source of information about Diabetes. It has helpful detailed explanations on self-managing Diabetes. The problem that I found living with diabetes is, I had to change my way of thinking, in order to survive diabetes. This book gives you a great foundation to start with. Also, I read The Power of Positive Habits, combining these two book works for me. When changing your life you must first change your way of thinking. After surviving fifteen years of Type 2 diabetes, The American Diabetes Association Complete Guide to Diabetes and The Power of Positive Habits by Dan Robey has change my life and the way I approached living with Diabetes.

    Highly Recommended

My husband has diabetes and this gave us insight on how to deal with the disease and how to use instruments in treating diabetes. This was more of a "how-to" book rather than in giving information on what to eat and what to stay away from. All in all I still recommend it for anyone with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes who has no knowledge of the disease and how to treat it.

    Highly recommend

Highly recommend for new diabetes patients, gives background information that one must read to understand the disease and become familiar with the condition. For other patients with
types 1 and 2 can be used as a reference.

    Exceptional Resource

This book is loaded with a lot of excellent information on diabetes, its care, prevention, and life style change recommendations. Being diagnosed as pre-diabetic, I've lived with this book for months. It's helping me lower my sugars and learn to live a healthier existence. I've dropped 25 pounds due to proper food and exercise management. This is amazing coming from a couch potato. It's a must read for everyone, even if you are not diabetic!
