Overview

There are some excellent songs here, notably Young's "This Old House" and Crosby's "Compass," but the quartet didn't really jell on its first new studio album in 14 years. Certainly, expectations were so high that the album seemed much worse than it really was, and in retrospect it seems a workmanlike effort simply lacking the spark that made this group so much more than the sum of its parts.

It was not the ''mornings'' of the ''love generation'' era, it was the ''afternoons'' of the ''post-love generation'' period and consequently, this ''family reunion album'' of the four living rock legends did miss the mark. To be honest, AMERICAN DREAM is not weaker than DEJA VU [ just contains less endeavors of ''borrowing & playing the fire'' ] and is as strong as LOOKING FORWARD. Like always, Mr. Young's songs [ American Dream - Name of Love - This Old House - Feel Your Love ] are among the most notable ones in the album. However, one should not ignore Mr. Crosby's ''Compass'', Mr. Stills' & Mr. Young's ''Drivin' Thunder'' and Mr. Nash's ''Clear Blue Skies''. For the many; Crosby, Stills & Nash is magnificient but Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young has no equivalent. AMERICAN DREAM proves it one more time.

This CD contains some great music. I listen to American Dream, Don't Say Goodbye, and This Old House several times a week. American Dream has an nice beat with great tempo. Don't Say Goodbye is a good slow song to play for your girlfriend. This Old House is just another great song. This CD is a must have.
