    more from this reviewer

    I Also Recommend:

NOT Religous and we Love these books!!

I don't care if your Catholic,Mormon,or don't believe in god at all because these books Rock! This story is about a little girls point of view dealing with family , adversity, dreams, and growing up in 1914 in New York City.
There are some parts that touch on the terrible things that were going on in Russia at that time against Jews and a big part of this little girls life and that is her Jewish beliefs.
These books were NOT intended to insult anyone elses beliefs or try to get anyone to believe in the jewish religon. This is however a great story of a girl looking within for the courage to do what her heart desires and be true to whats right.
This is a great look into learning more about someone elses beliefs and to be a more tolerant and understanding person with knowledge of others.

Fun Books. Package a Good Value

We enjoyed reading the books and talking about the stories that underlined them. My only hesitation is that the book includes some stereotypes that are unfortunate.

Rebecca's experiences reflect how immigrants adjusted and still adjust, to their new homeland.

The Rebecca series has both a specific and universal impact. It accurately describes the experiences of early 20th Century Jewish Immigrants. At the same time, those challenges and experiences are similar to the other groups in that era and today.

In addition, Rebecca's strong actions act as role models for today's girls. If she can act to defend the rights of workers before women even had the right to vote, then today's girls can take positions and fulfill their ambitions. Rebecca's character and values are most important. The reader's character and values are as important. They can make a difference. Maybe one of them will be president some day.
