All Music Guide - Gregory Heaney
Working with the Broadway cast of their critically acclaimed concept album-turned-musical, American Idiot, Green Day decided to combine the best of both worlds and re-record the album with the show's cast. With a rocking score and big vocal arrangements, the cast recording has something for fans of the album and the stage to enjoy.

    Broadway's Newest Hit!!

I have been a Green Day fan since my middle school years and have grown up listening to all their music. I bought every album as it was released. When Green Day released their American Idiot album, I was immediatly sucked into the underlying story of St. Jimmy and the Jesus of Suburbia. In April 2010, this story premiered under the lights of Broadway. This cast recording is captivating and addicting. With instrumentation performed by Green Day themselves and powerful vocals from the cast, this album completely captures the apathy, rage and desperation of the characters as faithfully as a studio recording can. The instrumentation, though re-recorded for this album, sounds like it was lifted directly from American IDiot and 21st Century Breakdown. The only thing I didn't like about this cast recording is the lack of dialogue and song lead-ins. Unless you knew you were listening to a Broadway Cast recording, one might think they were listening to Green Day karaoke.
