Amy B. Middleman, MD, MSEd, MPH, is a board-certified Adolescent Medicine specialist and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. She is a practicing and teaching physician specializing in the care of adolescents at Texas Children's Hospital. In addition to her Doctor of Medicine degree, she has a Master of Science in Education and a Master of Public Health degree.

Kate Gruenwald Pfeifer, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker. She has a master's degree in social work from Columbia University as well as a certificate in psychodynamic psychotherapy with children and adolescents from NYU Psychoanalytic Institute.

    Perfect for the preteen

    Our search was for a book on puberty geared toward boys. After looking through many, many, many different books, this one is the perfect fit for younger boys. Most of the books that I looked at were either too cartoonish, or had a little more information than my 10-year-old son needed at this point. This one sets just the right tone. It addresses the emotional as well as the physical issues of the preteen boy.

    Helpful for my 11 year old boy

    I was looking for a book to help give my son additional guidance through this difficult time in his life and i found it. This book provided him with answers to questions he did not know he had. I was surprised to hear him sparking conversations with me in areas of food choices and exercise. The book stresses how important making healthy food choices are in child development as well as long term. It also provided him with appropriate and concise answers to questions that tweens might find embarrasing to ask but want to know the answers to. I was also pleased to see that it contained infomation on how to be a good friend and how to make friends. This is a very good book and i reccomend it to parents who are trying to give their children guidance and support during this important developmental time in life.

    Recommend

    My son 10 1/2 and starting to notice changes in his body. this book was helpful, it answered a lot of questions for him and their were some subjects I would not have thought to discuss with him that he was curious about and they don't cover in school health lessons. Very helful book for pre-teen and teen boys.
