Children's Literature - Beverly Kobrin
Tyrannosaurus buffs who can't read enough about the largest predator known will want this companion volume to Barosaurus. Dr. Lindsay begins with the fossils unearthed by Barnum Brown in 1908 and reconstructed in 1915 for the American Museum of Natural History. Today that head-up, tail-down model is outdated. Paleontologists currently believe the head and tail were balanced over the legs on a horizontal plane as demonstrated by models, photographed here to simulate stop-motion shots of a live specimen as it hunts, devours its prey, and confronts an adversary. Dr. Lindsay carefully points out that the Tyrannosaurus behavior and coloring pictured is based upon educated guesses, since so few fossils have been unearthed. Barosaurus, Corythosaurus, and Triceratops are equally fascinating and similarly designed companion volumes that trace the discovery and reconstruction of the prehistoric beasts.
