    Beauty and History of America

WARNING MANY VISITORS HAVE BEEN GORED BY BUFFALO Buffalo can weigh 2000 pounds and can sprint at 30 mph, Three times faster than you can run This was one of the fliers from Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, which was one of William Zinsser¿s stops on his trip around America. He set out on a pilgrimage to some of the most popular tourist sites in the country. Aside from writing, Zinsser is also both a teacher and an editor. In American Places Zinsser sets out to visit fifteen of America¿s most beloved destinations. He traveled to historical sites such as Lexington and Concord, Hannibal, Pearl Harbor, Kitty Hawk, and The Alamo, and to the natural geologic wonders that make America unique such as Yellowstone National Park and Niagara Falls. Zinsser also visited some of America¿s manmade attractions such as Disneyland and Mount Rushmore. When describing Mount Rushmore Zinsser said, ¿The sky behind the Presidents was blue, and the sun had dried them out, leaving a granite surface that was stunningly pure. The play of sunlight and shadow on the features of the four men gave them an aliveness unusual in sculpture; Lincoln¿s eyes were particularly expressive.¿ He is able to paint a beautiful picture while still remaining concise and coherent. To the reader it seems as if Zinsser is their peer. His writing style is clear, concise, and captivating. Zinsser captures the essence of what makes America so special. Each chapter is like a postcard sent from a friend. American Places is truly a must read for anyone who loves the beauty and history of America, and also for anyone who doubts it.
