Purpose: The purpose, according to the editors, is to update and incorporate the very latest in neuroscience research in a textbook designed for clinicians interested in brain-behavior relations as they pertain to our aging population. The editors have greatly succeeded in their goal!
Audience: The intended audience is healthcare professionals including psychiatrists, neurologists, psychologists, geriatricians, and other clinicians who desire to understand and manage behavioral disorders of the elderly based on neuroscientific principles. This should be mandatory reading for residents in geriatric psychiatry and neuropsychiatry/behavioral neurology training programs.
Features: The textbook features 1000 pages divided into five sections and 41 chapters, including an index section. Section I is an overview of geriatric psychiatry and neuropsychiatry with chapters. Epidemiology and the neurobiology of aging are covered in this section. In Section II neuropsychiatric assessment is discusssed, including neuropsychological evaluation and brain imaging.
