Overview

While the American Revolution is often associated with New England and names like Boston, Concord, and Lexington, the Southern Colonies and names like Kings Mountain, Cowpens, and Charleston were also crucial to the war that established the United States of America. This analysis covers these five colonies—Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia—and their participation in the war. Crucial Southern battles, from the coast to the mountains, are examined in detail, with attention to the larger context of the war and its significance, as well as to the role of the ordinary Southerner, both patriot and Tory.

A Comprehensive Account of the Southern Revolution

I wrote this book and wanted you to get my perspective. Like many of us, I decided to finally write a book on a subject that I enjoyed to read about. I decided on the American Revolution in the South because I never really felt the coverage of events in the South was adequately revealed in the other published works. In my research I did find some Southern coverage, but is was still not as comprehensive as I felt it should have been. I decided to cover the events in as much detail as I could because it seemed to bring the actions to life more. This was my first book and it took 4 years to write part-time. I enjoyed it and was actually surprised to discover just how lost I could get in the research materials for hours and hours. After a while when I ran across a super reference about some event I would get downright excited. I would encourage you to write me if you have any questions about the process I went through. I regret I really had no outside friends or interested parties to review the book as I was developing it, and by the time I completed it, the publisher's editors did little that changed the content. They certainly helped get the book into the cleanest state we could. I hope you will purchase the book and begin to learn about some of the most interesting people and events we in America have ever seen.
