Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carly Reagan
For the young horse enthusiast who is just learning about different breeds, any book about horses is a treasure to behold. Here is a chance to learn about the graceful American Saddlebred in this installment of the "Horses" series from Pebble Books. Introductory level facts about the breed are presented in a simple manner, with no more than two sentences per page, each one accompanied by a beautiful color photo of the horses themselves in action. Facts about their size, their disposition, and their trained movements (for horse shows) provide a very brief satiation for those thirsting for knowledge about horses. The glossary of technical terms at the end allows an opportunity for learning beyond the simple given facts, and suggestions for further reading (and Internet surfing) on the subject lead the reader towards further investigation. Great for use in the early elementary classroom when introducing the idea of research and exploring several sources for more information about a given topic, as further reading would be necessary in order to gain a great deal of information about American Saddlebred horses specifically.
