Overview

NOW A BLOCKBUSTER MOTION PICTURE DIRECTED BY CLINT EASTWOOD—NOMINATED FOR SIX ACADEMY AWARDS, INCLUDING BEST PICTURE

A celebration of the remarkable life and legacy of fallen American hero Chris Kyle

This commemorative memorial edition of Kyle's bestselling memoir features the full text of American Sniper, plus more than eighty pages of remembrances by those whose lives he touched personally—including his wife, Taya; his parents, brother, and children; Marcus Luttrell and other fellow Navy SEALs; veterans and wounded warriors; lifelong friends; and many others.

He was the top American sniper of all time, called "the legend" by his Navy SEAL brothers, and a hero by those he served on the home front . . .

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. Kyle earned legendary status among his fellow SEALs, Marines, and U.S. Army soldiers, whom he protected with deadly accuracy from rooftops and stealth positions. Gripping and unforgettable, Kyle's masterful account of his extraordinary battlefield experiences ranks as one of the greatest war memoirs of all time.

A native Texan who learned to shoot on childhood hunting trips with his father, Kyle was a champion saddle-bronc rider prior to joining the Navy. After 9/11, he was thrust onto the front lines of the War on Terror, and soon found his calling as a world-class sniper who performed best under fire. He recorded a personal-record 2,100-yard kill shot outside Baghdad; in Fallujah, Kyle braved heavy fire to rescue a group of Marines trapped on a street; in Ramadi, he stared down insurgents with his pistol in close combat. Kyle talks honestly about the pain of war—of twice being shot, and experiencing the tragic deaths of two close friends.

American Sniper also honors Kyle's fellow warriors, who raised hell on and off the battlefield. And in moving first-person accounts throughout, Kyle's wife, Taya, speaks openly about the strains of war on their marriage and children, as well as on Chris.

Adrenaline-charged and deeply personal, American Sniper is a thrilling eyewitness account of service and sacrifice that only one man could tell.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

Chris Kyle authored two coast-to-coast bestsellers, but he only lived to see one published. His American Gun was in final proofs in February when this former elite Navy SEAL sharpshooter was shot and killed by a fellow military veteran. This special memorial edition of his autobiography American Sniper contains 50 pages of new material, including an epilogue; a foreword by his widow Tara; remembrances from friends and former SEAL teammates; and never-before-published photographs. Battlefield bravery and one great loss.

    Highly Recommended

It was interesting to read about Chris Kyle's early life and how it shaped his values, and then to learn about what it took to become a Navy SEAL. It gave me a much greater appreciation for what it takes to reach that level of service to our country. I found the description of his difficult transition from Warrior to Family Man and Resource to our returning troops to be an incredible journey. It would have been an honor to have met him had I been given that opportunity.

    This is a must read.

If you ever wanted to know the mindset of our soldiers, their courage and how they see patriotism as a part of who they are: (isn't everyone)? This is a touching, feelings filled book of the life of the courageous men and women that put their lives on the line, so that we remain, the home of the strong and the free. Now matter how you feel about the politics of war, you must read this to understand it's not all political, there are men and women dying for us. This book gives a shout out and a salute to all of them. God Bless Them.

One of the Best American Military History/BIO Books I have ever Read!

I have read hundreds of military history books from across the world. This is one of the most touching and thought provoking ones I have read. Chris Kyle was a great man and a great warrior, he always put his humanity first, however. I CANNOT recommend this highly enough. All of the Kyle family proceeds go to veterans charities and help to continue the work he started.

The lack of format and structure of an elegantly written soliloq

The lack of format and structure of an elegantly written soliloquy is ferociously drowned by the quality of the content of the great American tale. Chris Kyle, simultaneously the bringer of death and redemption for a seemingly hopeless middle east, relays a warning to would be terrorist factions throughout the world, 1 of me is worth a hell of a lot of you. God Bless America and God Bless Chris Kyle.

    A true legend

A true story about a true hero. But be sure to remember that it takes a man who has to see a definite line between right and wrong to think the way a person in his occupation has to think..... he tells it like it is and doesn't tip toe around what his experiences were. I can't wait to see the movie. Prayers to his family.

With all the hype about the movie, (I haven't seen it yet because of the rating. I know, sounds silly, but I try to avoid R-rated movies.) I wanted to see what everyone was talking about. This book by Chris Kyle is an amazing biography that puts into perspective, if just a tiny bit, what our military personnel and their families go through.

Coming from a family with a long history of military service, this book gave me an insight to the 'other' side. The side most don't like to talk about. It's hard to read this and not feel indebted.

This book is full of hard truths, yet we see the human side of the faceless people who defend our freedom with all they have. I loved his courage, I loved his humanity, I loved his dedication to his God and country. We need a few more like him!

I'm not one to read autobiographies, but this one is a must!
    God Bless!

    Chris kyle in American Sniper

The book American Sniper was often hard to read but impossible to put down. It was amazing to me that this man could kill the "savages" so easily in Iraq and other Arab countries. I believe he was a Christian and is now with Christ, even though he was responsible for so many deaths. But he was a warrior in war time and trained to kill by our country. The Bible says God hates war and the story in American Sniper definitely shows why.

This is a better than Excellant book.  Chris describes the true life of today's soldier.  It's a book about war, feelings, family, and the life of all soldiers.  Those who have never server, don't have a clue how much freedom costs or what our soldiers do for us to live a life of freedom.  This book explains that.  The movie was excellant, the book goes beyond that.  I read it in one sitting and will read it again.

EXCELLENT!!! WELL WRITTEN. A TRUE PATRIOT. Chris Kyle went beyond to protect our troops. This is not about killing to kill. This is about killing those who would not hesitate to kill you and every American they could. CHRIS KYLE is A HERO!!! as are all the soldiers who fight on behalf of our country. The book will hopefully make you appreciate what our soldiers endure while at war and when at home.

GOD BLESS CHRIS KYLE AND ALL THE GOOD SOLDIERS WHO SACRIFICE MUCH FOR THE REST OF US.

We need more men and women like Chris Kyle that love this country enough to make sacrifices for it. Would you?

To those ignorant people who don't like that we have soldiers willing to fight for our country and keep it safe from terrorists of all kinds, then I say why don't they get the H-LL out of America and leave it for those of us that love it!!! Thank God we had soldiers willing to fight in World War II. Those days the American public at home made all kinds of sacrifices while our soldiers were fighting. It seems like today many here don't want to make sacrifices like our soldiers make everyday. Would the ignorant people who complain about our soldiers preferred we just let Hitler take over or do they now prefer the terrorists to take over?
