Continuing with the sound an spirit of his new millennium Californian makeover, 2009's American Sunshine picks up the thread from 2007's Are You Lookin' at Me?, offering a cheerfully mellow collection of easy rolling folk-pop. Hay's touch remains light, never pushing either his melodies or his wry quips yet relying on them both to fuel these gently charming songs.
