"I don't read much in the historical fiction area and admit that I haven't read the first three books in this series. I did, however, thoroughly enjoy Amethyst and believe that while it is connected to the other three books, it stands alone. It's an enjoyable read and one that captured my attention enough that I will look for Ms. Snelling's next book.... A good read with a satisfying ending that turned back time with the memories of my own happily ever after, oh so many years ago."

Amethyst's decision to travel to Medora is born of her desire to find her nephew, Joel, and her desperation to temporarily get away from her alcoholic father. After finding Joel, discovering a shocking secret, and making new friendships, Amethyst's plans are altered. No longer does she desire to return home. In Medora she has found a new life for herself and is enjoying the changes within herself. Meanwhile, Joel's father, Jacob Chandler has plans of his own. He has loved Opal Torvald for months and is simply waiting for her to reach the appropriate age. Amethyst picks up literally right where the third book left off. I definitely would not read this book without first reading Opal. And if possible, I would recommend reading all three books in the series prior to reading Amethyst. I was happy to finally get a small note about Belle's reaction to the burning of the Dove House. Not much was said, but at least, it was not so open-ended as it was after the second and third books in the series. In Amethyst, both Amethyst and Opal both undergo a lot of character development. The romantic relationships in the book added an element that was not really explored in the previous book due to Opal's age. However, in this book, that element really came forward and the story gave a fitting end to the Dakota Treasures series.

I loved this story series. How fun to follow Opal all the way through her growing up years and to get to know all of the people in her life. Not only were the books well written, you felt like you were living them.

This is the best series of books I have ever read and I read a lot! I love all the characters and wish the series could continue. Being from North Dakota myself (and having visited Medora many times), this series was especially dear to me. I would recommend these books to everyone and can't wait to read more of her books!

I borrowed the first three books in the Dakotah Treasures series from my aunt several years ago. I kept feeling like it just ended and didn't really conclude anything. However she assured me that there was only three books and that's just how it ended. She had gotten the books from her mother, who had had them for years. A couple weeks ago, I borrowed the books again. This time I was certain that there had to be another book, so I got online and sure enough! I absolutely love this series and especially now that I can actually get some closure with the characters :)

A must read following Ruby and Pearl, I am so sorry there isn't a fourth book in the Dakotah series. Easy reading

This was the last in the series of 4, and I enjoyed it to the very end! Can get a "little descriptive" in sections, but the whole book is a treat to read and keeps you interested. I hated to see the series come to an end. I was intertwined with the characters in this book and the first 3 in the series. Hallmark should make Lauraine's books into Made-for-TV Movies. Thank you, Lauraine for your talents!

A well written series of books about wonment in the Dekotos when life was difficult for all. The characters are so real and the books come alive. Couldn't put them down. Read straight through some of them.

All four books in this series are wonderfully refreshing, I'm going to miss reading about all the characters.
