Meet the Author

Hansi Singh (Seattle, WA) began designing knit amigurumi creatures as playmates for her infant son. Hansigurumi, a shop she opened on Etsy for selling her amigurumi patterns, caught the attention (and needles!) of knitters in the US and abroad, and became an overnight success. Hailed "an amazing up and coming crafter" by CRAFT magazine.

Great for knitters who love to knit in 3D, but watch for typos!

I love this book. Mostly. Hansi's patterns are amazing. For the most part the instructions are very clear. The majority of the patterns really are meant for the intermediate and experienced knitter, not beginners. The only problem I have found with the book is typos/misprints. I haven't used all of the patterns yet, so there may be more than the ones I've already found.

    Nessie pattern:
Body Rows 165 and 169 - counts are off. One extra stitch.

    Black Devil Anglerfish:
In the Materials Needed section of the pattern there is no mention of a CC3, yet you will need one when making the lure.

    Starfish:
    Underside of Arm, row 5 - should read Sl 1, k9, p2tog-tbls, p2tog, k9, p1 - 22sts.

I really wish someone had test-knit the patterns exactly how they read in the book. It's one thing to find typos in a free pattern I found online, but to find them in a professionally published book sold at a large bookstore chain is incredibly frustrating.

    Amigurumi Knits

This book is so much fun! I've made all the vegetables and now everyone wants me to make them a set. I'd really like to progress to making critters, but it looks like I'll be knee deep in carrots and eggplants for the foreseeable future.

A creative book for people who enjoy unusual and fiddly crafts.

This is an enchanting book which needs a lot of concentration to follow the patterns. I can't see a real beginner finding any of the patterns easy but it's a great way to learn how to shape knitting for someone with some experience. I would have liked more pictures of different stages of completion. As pointed out in another review - there are a lot of frustrating mistakes in the text - an additional one is Row 5 of the Garden Snail mantle which says that 91 sts remain and then goes on to say divide these between two needles, 42 on one and 43 on the other! I would like to see one page with all the abbreviations listed and a short description as this would avoid much turning of pages.

    I Also Recommend:

    Beautiful Pattern book

I looked at this book for a whole year before committing to buy it. I am glad I got it and should have gotten it sooner. If you are looking for a good source of fun knit toys that also offer some great challenges this book is for you. The work goes quick, and gives some great learning opportunities as well as practice on skills you may already have.

    Eye Catching Book

Most of the amigurumi patterns I have seen are for crocheting, so I was ecstatic when I saw this book. I haven't tried all of the patterns, but when I started to knit the sea star (which looked relatively easy and uncomplicated), I found errors in the pattern. I was deeply disappointed to find out the author does not have an errata page on her website. She only offers some corrections for the jackalope pattern. I sent her an email a month ago asking for help with the error on the sea star pattern, but she has yet to reply. Needless to say, I wish I hadn't bought this book. It is unfortunate that the author and publisher did not do a thorough job in making sure the patterns were error-free.
