Overview

Appropriately select, implement, and interpret electrodiagnostic tests to identify a full range of central and peripheral nervous system disorders with Aminoff’s Electrodiagnosis in Clinical Neurology! Covering everything from basic principles to the latest advances in electrodiagnosis, this medical reference book helps you make optimal use of this powerful but complex diagnostic modality in compliance with regulatory and professional standards, so you can diagnose patients accurately and initiate effective treatment and management strategies.

  • Deepen your understanding of the principles, scope, limitations, diagnostic importance, prognostic relevance, and complications for each technique.
  • Visually grasp the technical and practical aspects of electrodiagnostic tests with almost 800 charts, figures, and tables.
  • Rely on the knowledge, experience, and perspective of renowned expert Dr. Michael J. Aminoff and an international team of contributors comprised of a virtual "who’s who" of clinical neurophysiology.
  • Keep up with developments in the field through significant updates, including new chapters on Artifacts and Normal Variants in the Electroencephalogram; Microneurography; Clinical Applications of Nerve Excitability Testing; Ultrasound of Muscle and Nerve; The Blink Reflex and Other Brainstem Reflexes; Visual Evoked Potentials, Electroretinography and Other Diagnostic Approaches to the Visual System; and Magnetic Stimulation in Clinical Practice and Research.
  • Meet regulatory and professional standards and apply best practices with state-of-the-art guidance (for both non-specialists and specialists) emphasizing the clinical applications of each electrodiagnostic technique.

Editorial Reviews

Reviewer:Daniel B. Hier, MD(University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)
Description:This is the fourth edition of the editor's multiauthored introductory textbook on electrodiagnosis in neurology.
Purpose:The book gives a comprehensive and complete introduction to the important areas of clinical neurophysiology including electroencephalography, electromyography, polysomnography, and evoked responses.
Audience:It is aimed primarily at neurologists who use electrodiagnostic methods in their clinical work.
Features:The book provides an excellent introduction to EEG including long-term monitoring, invasive monitoring, and intra-operative monitoring. The chapters on electromyography and nerve conduction studies are clear and readable. A separate section covers all the important evoked responses including motor, visual, auditory, somatosensory, and event-related. The final chapters cover electronystagmography, polysomnography, use of electrodiagnosis in the ICU, and brain death.
Assessment:This remains one of the best introductory texts to clinical neurophysiology including EEG, EMG, and evoked responses. The book is clear, to the point, and terse without being superficial. This is a valuable book that is strongly recommended for both neurology residents and neurophysiology fellows. Although the advanced neurophysiology fellow will need to do further reading in both EEG and EMG, this is a highly recommended book for neurology residents doing their EMG and EEG rotations.
