    Useful and informative

    This is a useful and informative reference for those seeking ballistic performance data on US factory and some US propritary ammunition. The volume has several useful articles, especially one on mountain (light weight) rifles. There are several areas for improvement: 1) It does not cover some newer ammunition (i.e., 308 Marlin, 338 Federal, etc.), as it appears that the work when to press sometime in late 2008; (2) It does not provide any information on obsolete or wildcat American ammunition, such information would be very helpful for the collector or hunter; and(3) It does not, with the exception of dangerous big game ammuntion, include information regarding common European or British rounds (i.e, 7.62x53, 9.3x62, etc.) not manufactured in the US.
    On the positive side, the information appears to be accurate and reliable, it includes most US ammunition manufactures (Buffalo Bore is a surprising omission).
    The volume is most useful for the active shooter / hunter in the market for a new firearm or for comparing performance of factory loads. For collectors or those serious interested in ammunition, it needs to be supplemented by Cartridges of the World by Frank C. Barnes, ed. by Layne Simpson, 12th ed.(2009). Ammo & Ballistics and Cartridges of the World complement each other to make a fine set of ammunition reference works. Every serious hunter, shooter, and collector should have both.
