Children's Literature - Melissa A. CaudillBeautiful, close-up photographs of flower parts draw the audience into guessing what the picture could be in the Look Once section of the book. Accompanying text describes the photo for extra help in guessing the subject of the photo. Turn the page to the Look Again section and another, larger photo of the whole subject along with text describes the picture. An example close-up is of a bee's leg with an attached ball of pollen. This can lead into a discussion of how flowers and insects depend on one another. A review of the seven close ups at the end of the book allows readers to test their knowledge on what was just read. They can check their answers on the next page. Also included is a glossary of terms, an index, additional informational resources such as books and web sites and activities for home or the classroom. This book is sure to entice young readers to get out their own magnifying glass to explore their own world close-up. This is part of the Look Once Look Again-Springboards into Science Series.
