Overview

Amor Prohibido was Selena's biggest album before her crossover attempt, Dreaming of You. While the album is slightly uneven, she was a dynamic, charismatic singer and is able to pull across the weaker material. Indeed, the record is her strongest album and shows why she was the biggest Tejano star of the '90s. [The 2002 reissue cuts "Corazon de Hielo" and "Desprecios y Desaires" from the original American release, while adding several bonuses, including spoken liner notes by the band and Selena's family, videos for "Amor Prohibido" and "No Me Queda Mas," and the bonus tracks "Fotos y Recuerdos," "Tus Desprecios," and "Donde Quiera Que Estes."]

This great album truly shows what Selena Quintanilla, the late Queen of Tejano music, could have achieved musically. From the rock-'n-roll flavored 'Ya No', to the heart-breaking mariachi ballad 'No Me Queda Mas,' just about every single song on this album is a hit. Even if you're not a big fan of Tejano music, even if you don't understand Spanish, one can't help but appreciate Selena's incredible talent--chances are you'll find a song or two on this album to get your toes tapping! A great album, truly shows the amazing versitality of Selena's voice.

I have loved Selena ever since my friend introduced me to her. I have a big picture of her in my room, I have the Selena movie too. I am so sorry for her family. And I get a weird tingle when I think of the killer. Her fan club president. It makes you think doesn't it. I was only 5 I think when she died but she will be in my heart 4ever.
