Overview

The highly-anticipated sequel to the New York Times & USA Today bestselling science-fiction/technothriller, WIRED

Be sure to look for Richards's newest science-fiction/technothriller, THE CURE.

Kira Miller is a brilliant scientist who discovers how to temporarily boost human IQ to dizzying levels. But this transcendent intelligence brings with it a ruthless megalomania. Determined to use her discovery to propel human civilization to a higher plane, despite this side effect, Kira and ex-special forces operative David Desh recruit a small group of accomplished scientists, all of whom are safely off the grid. Or so they think . . .

Soon Kira and her team are fighting for their lives against unknown but powerful adversaries. Worse still, while on the run and being relentlessly attacked from all quarters, Kira comes across evidence of savage acts that the enhanced version of Desh kept hidden, even from himself. Now both she and Desh must question everything they think they know. Can they trust each other? Can they even trust themselves?

And all the while, the greatest threat of all may be coming from an entirely unexpected direction. A threat that could lead to devastation on a global scale. And time is quickly running out . . .

Like its predecessor, AMPED is a smart thriller crammed with breakneck action, unexpected twists, mind-blowing science, and philosophical and ethical concepts readers will be contemplating long after they've read the last page.

Amped is a winner! I loved Wired and was delighted when I found out that Doug Richards published a sequel. Amped is every bit as good as Wired. It is a thought-provoding story with great characters, an engaging plot, and enough twists to keep the reader guessing. If you haven't read Wired, you should read that book before Amped. You will devour both of them.

Amped is a page turner. Like its predecessor, Wired, the plot moves forward very quickly and logically. It is perhaps darker in tone than Wired, and there is one part that is very intense and disturbing. What I liked the most about Amped is that the science fiction is very plausible, in a Philip Dick sort of way for it functions as a foil about the nature of our species. Like power, the possession of sophisticated technology tends to amplify our species good and bad attributes. The writer does an excellent job weaving social commentary into the story line so that the subtext is left for the reader to derive for themself what they wish rather than resorting to proselytizing. Furthermore, the science discussed is either here already or potentially just around the corner. In fact, one part of the story is indirectly based on the relatively new idea that the universe sprang out of nothing. A good explanation of the said concept can be seen if one searches on youtube for a video by Lawrence Krauss. My only complaint, and it isn't really a complaint but rather a quality of uncertainity is the ending. I hate endings like the television series Lost and Amped does offer closure without resorting to any out of the blue plot twists. Perhaps, it is my background but I think there is always a toll that people have to pay to become who they want to become. Sure, in the story some characters were lost but...as I said perhaps it is my background and I think the ending is what some would consider very "American".

Amped is a sequel to Wired but also a great read as a stand-alone The beautiful and tough-as-nails, Kira is back at it, perfecting her gene cocktail that makes you beyond-genius smart. She is now joined by some of the best characters from the first novel, and they work together to keep her intelligence enhancing therapy from the evil forces that seek it. There is enough action and adventure, twists and turns, to keep anyone interested and also the thought-provoking science to keep you thinking about the book long after you put it down. Whether you are a fan of sci-fi, suspense, thrillers, or just great stories, you will surely enjoy this book and should definately check out the authors other works.
