Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
The world's amphibians, salamanders, frogs, and toads are explained in great detail in this edition of the "Eyewitness" series. Children will be able to read and gain facts galore in this intensely-illustrated text. The up-close photographs are clearly detailed and brightly illustrated and true to life. Are there differences between toads and frogs? Even though they are the most easily-recognized amphibians, they are difficult to distinguish because some features used to differentiate the two are not consistent. Basically, frogs are more active, tend to be found in or near water, and have webbed feet while toads have short legs, warty skin, prefer to live on land, and are less active. However, some frogs have little or no webbing on their feet, and do not live near water, and smooth skin is characteristic of some toads. From the cave-dwelling olm to the bright orange color of the golden mantel, amphibians and their history, habitats, and life cycles are displayed in explicit detail in this amazing book. 2005, DK Publishing, Ages 7 to 16.
