Mark O'Connor is the best and most versatile violinist performing today and he has put together an eclectic group of performers and selection of music that is absolutely outstanding. I have been hoping Mark would make a Christmas CD one day. An Appalachian Christmas is a warm collection of songs that captures the spirit of the season.
You must buy this CD for yourself as well as a gift for others.

In my opinion this qualifies for a 5+ star rating. Absolutely one of the best that Mark O'Connor has ever done. The top artists that Mark has chosen shows real class a little different venue than the normal Christmas music and its nicely done. Renee Fleming is always great at whatever she does. Mark really shows his superb talent with the violin. He has put together one of his very best albums. You can hit the repeat button and not tire of this incredible music.

Mark O'Connor has done it again! Gathering and recreating wonderful American music from all corners of the American heart - once again proving that "we are all under the same tent." What a healing experience to listen to Alison Krause and Renee Fleming back to back and realize that we are all Americans and that if we would all just listen to, embrace and cherish our collective musical treasures, we could go a long way to healing our national soul. A very welcome Christmas present to all! Thanks Mark.

Mark O'Connor's new holiday album is one I could listen to year round, there are such beautiful songs included. Mark's artistry is unparalleled, and he gets some great folks to join him. "Slumber My Darlin'" with Alison Krauss is a gorgeous lullaby, the more jazzy Christmas songs with Jane Monheit really get you in the spirit. I love hearing James Taylor croon on Ol' Blue. You should definitely check it out if you love great holiday music, or just music in general!

It's not too early to enjoy the wonderful christmas tunes that Mark O'Connor and others have compiled together! I really love this album and cannot wait to share it with other when the holidays begin. Such a great range of genres from classical to fiddle to jazz! Highly recommended for any traditional christmas songs lover.

All Music Guide - Steve Leggett
There's nothing particularly Appalachian about this set, other than the cover, really, but it is a graceful and balanced holiday album featuring Mark O'Connor's brilliant fiddle playing on several Christmas classics, along with friends and guests Renée Fleming, Alison Krauss, James Taylor, Steve Wariner, Jane Monheit, Yo-Yo Ma, Sharon Isbin, Chris Thile, Edgar Meyer, and others.
