An Easter Alphabet

An Easter Alphabet

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2-- The sort of packaged nostalgia that looks quaint and appeals more to adults than to children. The poem devotes a single line to each letter of the alphabet and forms rhyming couplets that are occasionally awkward and forced. The works of 26 different artists illustrate the verse. Most were originally done as postcards or magazine covers between 1882-1933; Kate Greenaway and several minor illustrators are included. The varied styles of art and uneven quality of the pictures give the book a definite lack of unity. The pictures alternate between cozy anthropomorphic bunnies and chicks and old-fashioned children. Libraries would be better off buying an additional copy of an older Easter favorite. --Jane Gardner Connor, formerly at South Carolina State Library, Columbia
