Four years ago, I suffered a panic attack while teaching in a public High School. And though I managed to finish the lesson that day, I was thoroughly convinced that I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown as well as paralysis. Fortunately, I called a therapist rather than an ambulance and did receive treatment. But several years after the treatment, I relapsed. It was then that I decided to try a cognitive-behavioral approach to treating panic disorder and purchased Dr. Zuercher-White's book. Thank goodness I did. After all, Dr. Zuercher-White's book clearly explained the physiological, cognitive and behavioral components of a panic attack. But more importantly, the book's sequential nature as well as increasingly difficult assignments enabled me to acquire a whole arsenal of coping skills. And it was this very arsenal of coping skills that gave me the confidence to feel the fear but act anyway. With Dr. Zuercher-White's book, I was even able to overcome my most persistent and nagging fear, my fear of paralysis. So, if you or somebody you know suffers from panic disorder, this book can help. After all, panic attacks in themselves are not dangerous but merely reading those words may not help. Rather a treatment program that teaches you healthier and more adaptive ways of looking at panics as well as behavioral techniques to overcoming panic disorder can help. And on the road to cognitive-behavioral wellness, Dr. Zuercher-White's book is just the right companion. Thank you, Dr. Zuercher-White!
