Ok but very bloody and violent

A pretty good read, but this book is very bloody and violent. There are various kinds of child abuse and murder, lots of fighting with plenty of gore. This more of a book for men then women. It is not for young people and definately not for anyone under sixteen. The editing was actually pretty good. Since this was a free book, I was pleasently surprized by this. It is a decent length and had a satisfying conclusion, also a rarity in a free book and in a series book. The plot was well thought out and not confusing, there was not an over abundance of characters and the mystery was intriging without having a lot of convolutions. I enjoyed this book, although the blood and gore were a little much for me. There is some cursing, sexual referances and no preaching. I think this book would make a good movie. I will read more by this author. For adult readers.

    Good

This was a pretty good story. It started off one way, but before it was over it took you on a completely different journey. Not a story for younger kids, but a good murder mystery all the same. Also, on another note...plot spoilers should read the review by AD. It is concise, to the point, tells exactly what a review should say, all without giving away one detail of the plot point. I enjoy AD's reviews because they are not spoilers and tells exactly what a review should. Thank you AD.

    Still reading.

I'm about half way done with this book and normally would have waited to write a review. I had to make this comment though. I think I figured out why there are so many editing mistakes. I believe the author used voice recognition software to write it instead of typing. What makes me think so was a sentance where Val is talking to the NOPD chief and the chief says that they need to find Jackson before "FAPH stroke..." somebody does. I believe the word stroke was used to indicate the author's intent to use the / symbol. It should have looked like FAPH/Somebody does. I'm thinking the author did't think the software would make mistakes like that but it explains all the editing issues. If you do not carefully articulate every word then you must stop every so often and go through what was written to check for mistakes. A lot of ebooks are published through companies like Smashwords who do not provide editing. The author must do it themselves. I do love the story and am looking forward to finishing it.

I give it a MEH. I see others have noticed and noted the typo's, that was distracting. Over all, just not my type of story, typical predictable cop story. I was hoping it would be a different non-predictable cop story. I did give 3 stars cuz it was free, so feel I didn't lose anything other than 2 hours of my afternoon.

An interesting storyline but so many typos

and mistakes in punctuation it was distracting! I enjoyed the storyline's connections to Haiti. Might read another in the series sometime but hope the copy is cleaned up.

    meh

Story was okay. Did not blow me away. So many typos in the book that it started to become annoying. Some pages had several typos each! Very poor proof reading. Just an okay book.

    Good read!!

I hate predictable endings but this book was far from predictable. This book kept me on the edge of my seat at all times!!! There were several typos however they did not stop me from understanding what the author was trying to say.

I appreciate the fact that an author can come up with a story, and then actually writes it down for us to read. So - the author gets a star for that. Beyond that, I found it to be a so-so book. Not bad -- just not worth my time to read it. Sorry.....

Awesome read about corporate greed and political corruption set against the backdrop of New Orleans. Rich in New Orleans culture - this was a great murder mystery that left you guessing until the last page.

    Fair...

It was a promising plot, but the delivery was a bit flawed. There are details that show up out of the blue and don't quite make sense, and the dialogue does not sound like New Orleans. It was almost good detective fiction.

    Ordered more

I really enjoyed his writing especially now that I realize the typos are probably from the voice rec. software. I just ordered all of his "Val" books and the one situated in Ireland.
Please keep up the intreresting plots A J Davidson and thank you for the free one that introduced your stories.

    Murder Mystery in New Orleans

This is the second Val Bosanquet Mystery, Val being a man's name in this case. He goes from working on the New Orleans Police Department to working for the University Police Department, because he is, and was, caught up in the case of a young Haitian girl, now grown, who may have killed her mother with an ax. Complicating his life is his ex wife who is now living with his brother. It sounds like a real soap opera, doesn't it? Lots of violence and death--probably not book group fare.
