Meet the Author

Ann Charles is an award-winning author who writes mysteries that are splashed with romance and humor. Her book NEARLY DEPARTED IN DEADWOOD won the 2010 Daphne du Maurier for Excellence in Mystery/Suspense Award and the 2011 Romance Writers of America Golden Heart Award for Best Novel With Strong Romantic Elements.

Currently, she has several fiction books available: NEARLY DEPARTED IN DEADWOOD, OPTICAL DELUSIONS IN DEADWOOD, DEAD CASE IN DEADWOOD (selected as one of Suspense Magazine's BEST OF 2012 books), and BETTER OFF DEAD IN DEADWOOD, which are all part of her ongoing Deadwood Mystery Series. The fifth book in this series, AN EX TO GRIND IN DEADWOOD, will be out in early September 2014.

Also available from Ann are the first three books in her Jackrabbit Junction Mystery Series: DANCE OF THE WINNEBAGOS, JACKRABBIT JUNCTION JITTERS, and THE GREAT JACKALOPE STAMPEDE.

She has a couple of short stories as well--DEADWOOD SHORTS: SEEING TROUBLE and BOOT POINTS (short stories from her Deadwood Mystery Series) and THE OLD MAN'S BACK IN TOWN (a short story from her upcoming Goldwash Mystery Series).

A member of Sisters in Crime and Romance Writers of America for many moons, Ann has a B.A. in English with an emphasis on creative writing from the University of Washington. She is currently toiling away on her next book, wishing she was on a Mexican beach with an ice-cold Corona in one hand and her Kindle in the other. When she is not dabbling in fiction, she is arm wrestling with her two kids, attempting to seduce her husband, and arguing with her sassy cat. Most nights, you can find her hanging out over at www.anncharles.com, on Facebook as Ann Charles, or as AnnWCharles on Twitter--especially around midnight when her quirky fictional world comes to life.

    A little disappointed

This whole series has taken me by surprise. There are sweet moments, funny ones, sexy ones, and then others are scary as hell. My only complaint with the books is I feel that the ghost portion of the series is really dragging along. Every time the reader gets close to figuring out whats going on with the creepy albinos, the book ends. You can tell the writer is getting somewhere with the storyline, it's just taking entirely too long to get there.

An apartment full of Black Forest cuckoo clocks which happens to contain a decapitated body (shrunken head nearby), a picture of a child that should still be safely in your aunt's house, a boss who is encouraging the staff to be on a reality show, encounters with ex's, sick children, and an aunt you thought you knew pretty much everything about throwing you for a loop - Twice!  Yep, it's another Ann Charles Deadwood novel!

Violet Parker can't catch a break!  While her friends and family continue to stand with her, Violet finds another body, Harvey's dog finds another foot in a boot, and Detective Cooper has a new level of stress added to his life as he tries to solve the murders.

Speaking of stress, just how does one deal with undead who make cryptic demands?  And just why did Ms. Wolff call Violet minutes before she was murdered...and call her something in...was that German?

Only because I've been working 60+hour weeks did it take me as long as it did to read! Ann's books are very difficult for me to put down.

Mysterious dead bodies, humor and wildly complex family and friends with the paranormal sprinkled in! Could not put the book down tho my plan was to pace myself so the end didn't come too soon. Read the first 4 in the series to catch up on the folks and the plot-you won't be disappointed.

I didn't realize how much I missed Violet & Doc until I read this. Violet and the whole gang are back making me laugh, and laugh, and laugh.... Of course, Violet & Harvey find a another dead body, which makes Cooper oh so happy! And as the title suggests, Violet's jerky ex makes an appearance. So much going on and more to come! Ann, hurry up and write #6!
