Overview

A Victim of Circumstance

Katie Turner has no reason to trust men, especially not a merciless multi-millionaire like Zachary McIntyre who controls and manipulates situations with his vast wealth. But to her dismay, Zach feels her family has wronged him, and Katie is horrified when she suddenly becomes the pawn he's determined to capture.

A Man on a Mission

Zach McIntyre wants Katie Turner for one reason. Restitution. He has a score to settle with the Turner family, and only one thing will make them even: Katie Turner, in his bed and at his mercy. He won't be satisfied until he's attained his goal, and he knows exactly the way he wants her. Under contract, under covers . . .

Under his Control

Excerpt:

Zachary ran his eyes over the girl in front of him. She wasn’t as young as his sister, and the two years difference in age was a very important two years. It was the difference between girl and almost-woman. He saw the hint of that in Katie's eyes. She was already, undeniably beautiful. With her dark hair and slanted green eyes, she was beautiful in a sultry, exotic way.
Even though she was a decade younger than he was, he'd always been aware of her existence; he even had a vague memory of picking her up and taking her home when she'd hurt herself as a child. She'd been a pretty little girl even then.
But he'd first noticed Katie sexually only a few months before, when she began hanging around his little sister, about the same time that his wife began fucking Chris Turner. The cheating hadn't been much of a secret around town, and he knew that this girl had known about the affair.
Zach admitted to himself that he had fucked up feelings about Katie, even back then. Every time he'd seen Katie at his parents’ ranch house, he'd wanted to steal her away. All he could think about at the time was the fact that Chris Turner had stolen his wife, so didn't it seem fair that Zach should have Katie? An eye for an eye, that was the way he looked at it.
But there was one thing that stood in Zach's way from doing something stupid, something crazily impetuous. He hadn't had a choice at the time; it had to stand in his way. Katie Turner was too young. And Zach had still been too angry. Livid with it. Even now, months later, he still couldn't give Katie the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she was a nice, decent person, but he refused to consider it. All he could think about was the fact that she was a Turner. A female Turner, and one he wanted so badly it made thinking of anything else almost impossible. Yeah, the feelings he had for Katie were borderline insane and he knew it. She should be his. She should belong to him, because she was owed to him. And even though it was imperative that he let her grow up some first, someday it would happen. He'd bide his time because he'd have to, but one day, he'd feel her underneath him . . . at his mercy.

    Love Lynda!

This book was a bit short and jumped through the story quickly, but I still loved it! I have enjoyed all the books I have read by Lynda Chance. The first in this series Josh & Hannah was great and I highly recommend you read that one first.

This book may not have the same action as other Lynda Chance books, but I felt the story told here was filled with longing and emotion. I initially felt Zachary was too over the top, but he definitely redeemed himself in the end! Enjoy!

    Disapointed

This was just was not a good effort. I was looking forward to this story, I was very disappointed. Not enough story way too much internal musing. The huge time gaps made no sense. It became tedius. Lynda can do way better than this.

Ms Chance does not disappoint. She gives us a female lead who's vulnerable, but not broken, and a male lead who starts out hardened by life and cynical, but who then finds his salvation in her.  Zach helped heal her both emotionally and physically, and I loved that Ms Chance 'toned Zach down' (in comparison, say to her leads Connor, John, Raul), making him a more sensitive lead, and there perfect for Katie.  The love scenes in this were especially loving, romantic and healing, and  were exactly perfect for this couple. I felt the emotions in this tale, as well as reading them, and the epilogue was just the icing on the cake. And, bonus, there's an extract of Ava and Ethan's tale, which it goes without saying, will be an autobuy for me.

    Ok

I was disappointed. There was no real development between Katie and Josh. It was only 151 pages which i thimk was too short compared to book 1.

I want to start by saying Lynda Chance is one of my favorite authors, I am always extremely impressed with her stories and writing syle, with that said I was highly disappointed with this book. I found myself bored and skipping paragraphs and even entire pages. Definitely not one of my favorites by Lynda Chance.

    Disappointing

Have to admit, this book dragged & not as good as her others. It does keep you reading non stop because you are at the edge of your seat to see if something is going to happen. When it does, its the end of the story. Disappointed...yeah, just lost interest in buying other books from this author. Drastic change from her other books.

A-hmmm.1/2 of a half star is back...

What happened to the rest of my review..? Zach acted like he was on c.r.a.c.k. because he was such a B.U.T.T. I can't remember all I said before the post was posted. But I needed to restate that. And that was only about a few pages into the book. And then I pushed myself through the quicksand of his bull cocky ....and yep, by the end of the read I still thought he was a hot funky mess!!, and still didn't deserve her. And for Ms. Chance to say she gave our girl the 'Man' she felt Katie needed was saaaaad, so sad... :+(
Boo deserved way better. And yes, I know it was Just a 'Character' in a book. But some of these guys you
make a connection with and some you don't. Zach was a horrible Love-Connection.

This book was different for me than Josh and Hannah's book.  In their story we got to see the love progress between them.  I felt Zach and Katie were not even around each other much in this book.  I needed the connection that I got with Josh and Hannah and, for me, this book was missing that. Both  Zach and Katie had been hurt in different ways in their pasts, but I still didn't see Katie's connection with Zach at all.  Still a good story and I liked it but for me it was missing that intense romance.

    Okay...could have been better...

I've read every single book Lynda Chance has written. She is one of my favorite writers. She has the ability to write the kind of domineering, sexual, sensitive alpha male that women fall in love with and I admire that about her.

This second book in this series wasn't what I thought it would be. In the first book, Josh and Hannah's story was beautiful because we got to see how their relationship progressed and how their love grew as the years passed; but Zach and Katie...they spent more years apart than they did together. I just didn't get the dynamic of their relationship. Their story didn't click with me, especially since the majority of the book consisted of Zack and Katie's inner dialogues. There wasn't really any communication between them.

This book also differed because it wasn't sexually intense like Ms. Chance's other books are, but that is due to the book focusing on the rape issue. I do think Ms. Chance dealt with the rape situation very tastefully and very realistically. For readers who don't feel comfortable reading about this subject, there's absolutely nothing described in detailed, everything is glossed over. It focuses more on the traumatic side of things.

This is definitely one of Ms. Chance's tamest books....

    more from this reviewer

Excellent follow up to Josh and Hannah in the Redwood Falls seri

Excellent follow up to Josh and Hannah in the Redwood Falls series. Zach is a wounded man. His cheating wife and unborn child are dead along with her lover Chris Tanner. Zach in his pain has laid the blame at the feet of the entire Tanner clan. He's lashing out and Katie Tanner is taking the brunt of this anger. Unfortunately, Katie already had deep wounds of her own. I was amazed at Katie's resilience through all of the drama Zach inflicts on her. Yes, she's broken and afraid, but she's also stronger than she thinks she is. She loves her family so much that she's willing to walk into a supreme nightmare. WOW! The moment when Zach realizes how badly he screwed up, how much he hurt and traumatized Katie felt very real. It was amazing that he realized that by his own actions he may have lost the thing he wants the very most in the world. Katie. His repentance and tenderness toward her was moving and the ending was superbly sweet.
    Highly recommended author and series

    Not the usual fare

Do not expect the normal Lynda Chance alpha male in action book here. This is very emotional and it delves more into the thoughts and feelings of the protagonists. I found it incredibly enjoyable and would easily recommend it.

    Spoiler Alert...

They do deal with the subject of rape and it is an extremely important plot point, though in my humble opinion it was done very tastefully. But if reading about that subject especially in your romance novel offends this is one to skip

    weak

The plot line was weak. The time it took things to flow was inconsistent with a go get 'em make it happen alpha male. And, why, oh why would she refuse the help she so obviously needed?

This is the continuation of what happened with Josh & Hannah, or rather, kind of what was going on along side of them. Another surprise from Lynda Chance if you're looking for straight up hot sex scenes and not much substance. You will be pleasantly surprised. I was, keep it up, Ms. Chance!
