ABANDONED AT THE ALTAR

A man devastated by love

After three years of carousing and debauchery, Alex Cartwright, heir to the Duke of Hastings, has put his life back in order. Having embraced sobriety for two years, he has no intention of revisiting the past or risking his heart again. But the return of the very woman who introduced him to the darkest side of hell brings not only the painful, haunting memories of bittersweet love and abandonment, but the son he never knew he had...

A woman silenced by secrets

Threatened by the revelation of a secret that could destroy her family’s place in society and forever tarnish a dukedom, Charlotte fled England on her wedding day five years ago. Now, although it appears that secret is safe, when Alex discovers her other secret—their son—Charlotte has an altogether different battle ahead. She must now fight one love to hold onto the other—the man whose touch still makes her burn, for the child who is her very world.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Marlene Harris
Runaway brides, secret babies, blackmail, and alcoholism would be enough drama for one story all by themselves. In this latest from Kendall (A Taste of Desire), all of that is mere backstory. What drive this surprisingly deep novel are its revelations and their aftermath... Highly recommended for historical romance fans. ~ Library Journal, Starred review
Romance Novel News - Jennifer Porter
“An Heir of Deception is a romance with heart. It is angst-ridden, deeply emotional and compelling. I could not put it down, and it left a smile on my face for hours.” ~ Romance Novel News
Author - Courtney Milan
“Despite being overloaded with a million things, I just spent the afternoon reading An Heir of Deception. I loved it. Beverley gave me that lovely aching feeling in my gut for Charlotte and Alex. I really think this is her best book yet, and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.” ~ Courtney Milan, New York Times bestselling author.

Meet the Author

I have always loved books, romance and wished that everyone (most especially me) would find their happily ever after. Add in my love of London, England set in a period when ladies strived to be genteel and dresses could barely fit through doors, and it was obvious I could write nothing but historical romances.

As the mother of one too bright and mischievous young boy, I pull full-time duty on all fronts. When I'm not working at my techy-type job, mothering, writing or reading, I'm probably sleeping and dreaming of a time when I'll have time for my favorite hobbies: knitting, crocheting and sewing.

I waited months for this book and it was worth every bit of my long not so patient wait! Alex is my dream hero, he is brooding, sexy, and hopelessly in love with Charlotte. When she left him at the alter 5 years before he was almost destroyed. When she comes back into his life 5 years later he is hurt and angry, but deep down still loves her just as much. Alex really makes her suffer for a while for hurting him and keeping his son from him. The book was both heartbreaking and very sexy! My favorite type of romance is the loves reunited and this was just perfect. I loved this book

Great read. I absolutely loved Alex. He made the book for me. My heart bled for him. Charlotte was great too. So many secrets and twists. That surprised me the most. When you think you know what the book is about, you don't. Ending shocked me. Now I'm wondering how soon it will be before Beverly releases Catherine and Lucas' book. Quite the teaser there at the end. Loved this entire series.

A Must READ! Couldn't put this down!

When I received an email stating that this book was available, I bought it on my Nook immediately. Her other 3 books for this series was really good and she kept up with the awesome writing in this one. Read it in one day (and I'm a working mother of 3)! I agreed with the other review, you must read the other 3 books to have a better understanding/appreciation of the story line and characters. Love, love and absolutely LOVE ALEX!

A fast-paced, action-packed, and adorably romantic read, The Dar

A fast-paced, action-packed, and adorably romantic read, The Dark World was a fantastic YA paranormal romance. I loved this book! The romance was sweet, the secrets were plenty, and the thrills were nonstop. I really enjoyed reading this wonderful book.

Paige was a lovely heroine. She was strong and determined not to let others' opinions bring her down. When faced with a new world full of danger, rather than hide away, she decided to stay and fight. My only issue wasn't with her as a character, but with how she became a Traveler. I assume it was because she died and was resuscitated, but would that mean that everyone who was ever brought back to life became a Traveler? Why was it only her? However, despite my skepticism, I thought she was a wonderful character. She was tough, clever, and very likable.

Logan was such a sweetie! I adored his character. He was just wonderful. He was very sweet, determined to do what he thought was right, and very protective of who he cared about. He also had a lot of secrets hidden in his past that were very surprising when they were revealed. They certainly added a greater depth to his character. I thought he was amazing and I totally adored him.

The romance was very sweet. Paige and Logan were adorable together. Despite hesitance and miscommunication, it was always obvious that they had feelings for each other and, when they finally admitted it, they were a lovely couple. I loved how devoted Logan was to Paige and how determined he was to keep her safe. But, it also went the other way around, with Paige intent on keeping Logan from harm and I thought that reciprocation was great. I thought they were perfect together.

The plot was fast paced and I was hooked the entire way through. There were tons of thrills and secrets that kept me on the edge of my seat. There was never a dull moment with all the demons around. Quick mention about the world-building. It was well done and created a very interesting world of demons and warlocks. It wasn't fully explained or explored, but I'm guessing we'll see more of it in the next book, especially with how this one ended. I really enjoyed the story and the ending has me excited for book 2. Can't wait to read it!

The Dark World was a brilliant YA paranormal romance. I absolutely loved this book! From the secrets, to the romance, to the endless thrills, this book was fantastic. YA lovers, this is a book you'll definitely want to read.

This was disappointing. Spoiler Alert! The twin illegitimate daughters are of mixed race. their father white, their mother black. This was a far fetched and ridiculous story. Both girls are white blue eyed blondes, really! I can't swallow this one not when their half brothers , the legitimate heirs both have dark hair and eyes.

Oh Alex, I have loved you from the first moment I met you in Sinful Surrender and A Taste of Desire.

This was a heart touching story about love lost, second chances, and most of all forgiveness and understanding.

I didn't know that I would feel for Alex so much and even be mad at him till this story. I would say that I wasn't happy at Charlotte for doing what she did and that it wasn't a good reason for her to do what she did too.

But I really loved how their story came to a closing and that hopefully everything is going to go well for them.

I can not tell you how much I love this series and can not wait for the next book by Beverley for Catherine and Lucas' Story~

    Highly recommended

This book is part of a series which is highly recommend if you love Georgian Romance and intrigue. Wonderfully written, characters pull you into the story and keep you there. Such a great author who gives her characters a quick wit, and scandalous tongue; and writes of strong women and men who can handle and aren't threatened by them. The series is a great read!

I truly enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down. What a great love story. The best part is that it was a great story period. It had suspense, pain, love and some hot sex. I couldn't wait to turn the page. I've enjoyed this book so much I read it more than once. I've read the whole series except for the one about Thomas. I enjoyed all the books but this was the best.
