Overview

Fascinating and terrifying in equal measure, An Illustrated History of the Haunted World explores key events, haunted places, and important personalities in the paranormal world from all over the globe and throughout history, from the Pendle witches of the 17th century to the present-day media obsession with ghosts.

Opening with a history of hauntings throughout the ages, the book then delves into the origins of festivals that honor the dead and their links to the realm of the paranormal. An examination of ghost photography from a modern perspective follows, covering everything from renowned "ghost" images to the less well-known, and various unexplained apparitions, including orbs, fogs, and vortices. The history of spirit communication is also revealed, providing a who's-who of key figures within the world of mediums and the paranormal, alongside a detailed look at the numerous methods and tools that have been employed to investigate supernatural occurrences over the centuries. The final section of the book looks at contemporary paranormal investigation, including current research techniques, the development of parapsychology as a science, media speculation, and popular fascination with anything ghostly.

Illustrated with over 150 intriguing photographs, some of which have never been seen before, this authoritative history of all things paranormal is a must for anyone with an interest in this fascinating subject.
