Overview

With times hard, money tight and the pressures of everyday life weighing ever more cumbersomely on adult shoulders, a prevalent atmosphere of general doom and gloom is a self-serving downward spiral. Wherever we look, we see long faces, etched with worry, and seemingly unable to crack even the most superficial of smiles, let alone break out in to a good old belly chuckle! Whatever happened, we might ask ourselves, to the GSOH of our halcyon childhood days, before trouble, strife and inhibitions dealt a fatal blow to our readiness to burst in to peals of joyful and rapturous hilarity at the daftest of comments?
Actually, nothing happened or changed. In reality, the worse things get, the greater our need for the release and relief we get from splitting our sides till our eyes water and our bellies ache. Hence, the rise and rise of the comedy club and the Superstar Comics who endear themselves to the nation, becoming household names by banging out those winning one liners that make ‘em laugh!

Those crushing one liners… conceptually simple, yet sharp enough to hit the proverbial nail on the head of the most mundane or adverse situations within a succinct sentence. Pure comic genius that has audiences laughing out loud at misfortune spun mirthfully. Yet the one liner is far from confined to the stage.

The mastery of wicked one-liners is an invaluable life skill that enhances different areas of many peoples’ lives. Fact is that we naturally gravitate to folks blessed with the ability to make us laugh – it’s good clean (or unclean) fun, simple as! That is why outstanding pros are taken to our hearts as national treasures. It is also the reason why the use of witty one-liners in our business and personal lives works wonders.

The most effective one-liners are often edgy and bordering on the offensive, which contributes to the resounding punches they pack. Yet it is noteworthy that there are certain situations in which they should be pulled out the bag with a dash a caution and sensitivity. What might elevate the Frontman at a wedding to the hero of day might also see him descend from hero to zero at a funeral. Likewise, the tongue in cheek one liners that jettison a band to the top earner in town may fail to have the desired effect if unleashed during a corporate Christmas Bash.

The undeniable fact remains that drolly delivered one-liners used in appropriate situations result in jokers being loved and in demand. Such is the power of laughter, whether it is evoked on stage, in the workaday world, or across a spectrum of social scenarios.
