About the Author

In days gone by, some would have said of me that I was a "Micropreneur"; a man of fairly minor achievements and small qualifications, who also had a modicum of 'money-making' skill along with a lot of luck and good friends in high places.

Here's how I see myself these days: An "Innerpreneur"; a searcher, researcher and scribe of that which lies behind our Consensual Truth, a dedicated Psychonaut of soul space and a citizen of cyberspace. I'm also a practitioner of the philosophy known as Ahimsa .... doing no harm to my fellow creatures.

I moved to Ecuador from a small village on the Island of Maui, Hawaii, a place called Hana; very much like Vilcabamba, with sweet-natured gentle people, good weather and beautiful surroundings. The difference? A 75% lower cost of living in Ecuador and an unintrusive government in a more or less libertarian-leaning cultural environment!

I began this newest cultural-changing adventure three years ago at the still vigorous and healthy age of 80, after spending four years traveling around the world trying to find THE perfect Shangri La in which to spend my Golden years. It would be, I hoped, my final life-adventure, of which I'd had more than my fair share.

As one reviewer put it: "He's Had An Interesting Life ... to say the least! When he decided to make Maui his year-round home in the late 1970s, Patrick had already been a Wyoming cowboy, Marine Corps officer, a monastic monk, Humanistic 'growth' center director, award-winning restaurateur and ski lodge entrepreneur. And sometime during those Life Adventures, he had also been a husband . . . Oh, and he'd been a specialist in international art thefts at a governmental agency in his young and more derring-do days."

For the past quarter century, my business function had been that of managing partner and director of one of the Maui's premier business enterprises. Now semi-retired, I am riding herd on a 102 year-old private family foundation and its investment arm established by my great-grandfather, writing books .... and working daily in an organic veggie garden (well actually, Jorge my Ecuadorian gardener does all the work, while I just 'supervise' and nibble).

By the way, that garden produces almost 100% of my food intake. I have been on a mostly "plant-based" diet (fruits and veggies, nuts and seeds) for the past three years. And my health is thriving! Try it, you'll love it.
