This was the first book I've read (listened to) by this author. I plan to read many more because I enjoyed this one so much. Hannah lives with a secret that she has shared with no one. It's amazing how one secret can affect so many people but this story illustrates just how that can happen. Hannah grows up with Samuel and Christian who are best friends. Samuel leaves their Amish community without warning but leaves a note behind saying goodbye. Hannah and Christian get married and attempt to start a family when tragedy strikes, threatening to reveal her secret. This is not your typical "feel good" Amish novel. It brings up real-life situations that can, and do, happen and the harsh consequences of our decisions. Because of some bad choices we make, we can struggle with shame, remorse and many more heartbreaking emotions. Fortunately, this story also focuses on forgiveness and trusting in God. If you make it through this book with dry eyes, you are much tougher than me. I highly recommend this novel to anyone wanting a closer relationship with God or desiring to learn the importance of forgiveness. I received an audio version of this story from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very engaging work of Amish fiction but I was surprised that several main characters had great difficulty in forgiving since the Amish faith is very outspoken about their forgiveness.  It does show the Amish in this book, though, to be very human and struggling with many of the same issues as Englisch.  I appreciated the way that the Bishop and elders handled the difficult issues in the book, as well.   I won't spoil the book by revealing what those issues were.  I finished this book in one evening as I just could not stop reading.   I rate this book 5 stars and highly recommend it to others.

This author really gets you hooked from the first page. The only downside was that it ended. I wanted to keep reading.

A very touching story  --   This is the first book that I've read by J.E.B. Spredemann and I really enjoyed it. This story really tugs at your heart and will bring tears to your eyes. She shows how you can turn your life around from the lowest point to feeling like you are one of the most blessed. Hannah goes through many bumps in the road and this story shows how those bumps, hills, and mountains can make you stronger if you just have faith in God. There is a second book in this series "A Secret Encounter", I'm sure I'll be reading it. I read this on my Kindle but both books are available in paperback also.

I bought this book on 1/10/14 and finished the same day!  I just couldn't put it down until it was finished!  The storyline is very good, kept my attention and it grabbed my heartstrings and emotions, for sure and for certain!!!  I highly reccomend the novel to everyone.  The mystery in the story line was very good!  That was why I couldn't put it down!  I loved the way that Jesus is brought into the story and how forgiveness and redemption were shown for everyone to see  We all need it in one way or another!  I am eagerly awaiting the next novel by this author!  This one was wonderful!

Different, deals with pre marital sex and its results among the Amish. Teaches forgiveness. This book had too much sadness. It was one bad crisis after another. Because of adult topics, for ages 18 and up. 180 pages. I did not enjoy this book very much. It was written to warn and teach, rather than entertain. AD

I cannot say enough about what a great book this is! I laughed, I cried, and I loved the message of the story. This is a book I could not put down until I was finished! You do not have to be Amish to relate to the emotions of the characters. It is a wonderful story of the regrets we often have over choices we made that cannot be changed, and yet how we can achieve peace through God's grace.

This is a different Amish story. I did enjoy it, but wish the characters had been more developed and not so wishy-washy. It was worth the time to read though. esk 02/2016

Wow! “An Unforgiveable Secret,” by J.E.B. Spredemann is a must read! Christian Glick is going to ask Hannah Stolzfus for her hand in marriage, but first he must break things off with his English girlfriend. Christian’s best friend, Samuel, can’t stand the fact that Christian is cheating on Hannah, but he promises not to share his friend’s secret with anyone. While out at a restaurant with her sister and her boyfriend, Hannah runs into Christian dressed in English clothes and with an English girl! She is devastated. The only person who comforts her at this time is Samuel. Time passes, Samuel moves to Ohio to marry his girlfriend and eventually Hannah marries Christian. During this time, Hannah remains reserved, lonely and depressed. She is harboring a secret that no one knows about until Samuel returns to Pennsylvania. Once the secret is out, it changes her life forever. You will definitely want to purchase a copy of this book to find out the ‘unforgiveable secret’. You can’t read just one chapter when you dive into a book by J.E.B. Spredemann, you must allow some time so you are able to finish the entire book in one setting, they are that good!

An Unforgivable Secret ( Amish Secrets-Book 1 ) by: J.E.B. Spredemann This is the first book in Amish Secrets and What a start for a series. Wow, what a beautiful, heart breaking story. I don’t think I have ever read anything in the Amish like this story. I loved the story and the characters. At Times I felt like knocking one of the characters up side of the head. This is Hannah’s story and I felt so sorry and sad for her. She is holding onto a very deep secret that she thinks she cannot tell anyone. While I was reading I had tears rolling down my face most of the time. When I started reading An Unforgivable Secret I could not put it down. I had not liked much finishing when my kindle went out on me and I had to put it on charge. So I did the one thing I do not like to do, I plugged it up and kept on reading till I finished. It was so much going on that I had no idea how it would end. There is a lesson for all of us in this story, Jesus died for our sins and we need turn it all over to him , He will forgive us if we just ask Him. Thank Spredemann for another good one.

This is a beautiful story of the redeeming grace of Jesus. Although it deals with a very sad and difficult topic, it is a great reminder that no matter what we have done, Christ forgives. The subject matter is one you don’t often hear about, particularly within the Amish community, but it is real, it is emotionally painful, and it is redeemable. Being a part of a strong religious community, Hannah feels she must keep her secret hidden. If others found out, it would likely bring great shame to her and her family as well as end her chances of marrying the man she loved. When her secret mistakenly spills out in the presence of another person, her life suddenly takes a turn and begins to spin out of control. What will it take to help Hannah face her greatest fear? How could God possibly use this for good? This book had me in tears, made my heart smile, and made me once again marvel at how God can take the most difficult of situations and turn it into something that can be used for His glory.

Implies abortions cause miscarriages - whereas giving birth carries more risks for mothers. Far right wing Christian views without scientific basis. Pollyanna ending. Just plain silly.
