Anathema - Cloud Prophet Trilogy, Book 1 [NOOK Book]

A New Fan!

I bought this book after a recommendation from a friend. I have to say that my friend was right. Anathema was very engaging from start to finish. It was a book that I didn't want to put down until I had read it from cover to cover. I can't wait to see what happens from here.

A DEFINITE MUST READ!

** SPOILERS MAY ENSUE **
Had to add the note because I just finished reading the amazing novel, Anathema by Megg Jensen and I'm still wrapping my mind around everything that happened.

And a LOT happened. The novel follows Reychel, a slave to Kandek, as she wakes on her fifteenth birthday to find her best friend missing. Add to this the fact that fifteen is a magic number, when a slave becomes "legal" and is branded to be kept in the family.

And that's only the beginning! The fast-paced action will keep you turning pages until you read the end. I loved watching Reychel grow as a person throughout the novel and can't wait to see what happens next in the upcoming Oubliette. Of the two twists that happen near the end of the book, I saw the one coming and honestly hoped it would turn out to be a good thing once it was revealed but the second I had to read a couple times to get over the shock. Brilliantly done!!

Beautiful.

Never judge a book by it's cover, Um . . it's OK, go ahead with this one. The cover is absolutely beautiful, and the story to follow it beautiful as well.

Take a journey with Reychel as she tries to put the pieces of her life together and find meaning as to just what her purpose in this life is. This book is one you will not want to put down. Just when you think you know where it's going, NOPE, the book takes a turn. The only down side of this book was it ended. I wasn't ready for it to be done. There are things I wanted to see happen. I hope there more to come in a second book.

A-MAZE-ING!

Wow, what an amazing book! Hopefully, I won't have to wait long to read the following 2 books in this series! Picking up this book I had no idea what to expect. When I read the first page I was immediately intrigued! Even though the book is less than 190 pages, so much happens in the book that I am truly amazed that Megg Jensen was able to pull it off in so few pages.

While reading, I was so focused on anticipating what would happen next that I couldn't put the book down until I was finished, which was about 1:30am. And when I finally put it down, I was determined to write something even though I was so delirious from lack of sleep. And this is what I wrote, "What an amazing book! I am too tired to write a review at the moment so I will be doing it in the morning. This is a good one! Very compelling, there are some twists and you don't know who to trust. Very good!"

The emotions I felt from reading this book ranged from excitement to intensity to shock and then to frustration! There is very little detail about the story that I would want to include in this review because I loved that I read it completely blind and I would prefer it to be the same with everyone else. I do want to say that one particular person more than disgusted me! I wanted to jump through the book and strangle them (I won't say him or her to ruin it for you).

Anyways, I would highly recommend this book!

AMAZING!

I couldn't put this book down, it was so interesting. The idea for the story was wonderful, skillfully written, and marvelous characters, I just loved Reychel and Ivy (yes even to the end I was an Ivy fan) I cannot wait for the next installment

Fast moving - in a bad way.

Nothing is developed in this book. Every event is followed far too closely with another event. It is full of overly done intrigue. The main character has very close and emotional relationships with almost everyone she meets, but there is no background information as to why. She meets someone, and suddenly, within what appears to be hours, she is tearful at their farewell and saying how much she will miss her close friend.

This would have been an excellent book if it had been slowed down and detailed better.

I Don't Read a Lot of Y/A.

It's true, I don't. I like horror, hard sci-fi and high fantasy. That's what I'll say first. Second, I found Anathema an engaging read with a rich story and history. While a few of the sub-plots are slightly predictable as you read the novel, the characters are well-written and Reychel is so interesting in her world and what she can do. Looking forward to books 2 & 3.

A Must Read!!

I read this book all in one night~I just couldn't put it down! The characters are great, very loveable, and the ending was a real surprise! I can't WAIT to read more from this author!

Very much enjoyed.

I was looking for a really short read when I brought Anathema with me to the beach yesterday. I wasn't thinking much of it but I really enjoyed Anathema. With a fast paced story and constant turns I finished it in one sitting at the beach. (I even got sunburned from laying in the same spot while finishing this.)

The books I've been reading lately have been a bit long with way too much detail, but Megg wrote this with the perfect amount pages and the right amount of detail. From the first page to the very end I was left guessing on what would happen next.

I really felt for Reychel and how she was betrayed by her friends. I just wanted to go up to her an hug her, but she's stronger than that. She goes through every day not being able to see the outside world. When she's tossed into reality she dusts herself off and keeps walking. When Reychel finds she's more than the average slave she does everything she can to make things right.

Amazing! Highly recommended

First off, I just have to say that I love Megg Jensen. Her writing is fantastic. Anathema was the first I'd read from her, and I was definitely impressed.

We first meet Reychel on the morning of her fifteenth birthday. She is a slave to the lord of her land, Kandek, and fifteen is the "magic number"--the day when she will receive his brand, marking her as his slave for the rest of her life. He's kept her indoors her whole life. Her only glimpse of the outside world is when he calls her to him and asks her to stand at an open window and tell him stories.

Anathema is full of twists that will leave you guessing. Reychel learns that no one is what they seem. There were lots of surprises, and the ending left me anxious for the sequel, Oubliette. Anathema was definitely one of the best Young Adult Fantasies I've read in a long time and I highly recommend it!

Fantastic Fantasy

Anathema, book one of the Cloud Prophet Trilogy by Megg Jensen, is a young adult fantasy that takes storytelling to a whole new level. This was a fresh look into a very interesting fantasy world. The author not only made use of settings and well developed characters, but she took a unique approach to the story line that I found very refreshing. This book was a very quick read and over long before I wanted it to be! That said, I am definitely looking forward to picking up the next two books in the series to find out what became of Reychel, the people she's fighting for, and those who may (or may not) have betrayed her.

Brilliant

After reading so many books that are the same, this book is a breath of fresh air. The plot is so intense with many twists that it keeps you on edge. Do yourself a favor and buy this book when you have an entire day to dedicate to reading it. Because you will not want to put this book down

Amazing Read!

Reychel is a slave with more restrictions put upon her than the others. She’s not allowed to go outside or see the sky. The only exception is when she tells stories to her master. On the eve of her fifteenth birthday, her best friend disappears; leaving her to face the day her master burns his brand into the back of her bald head alone. Can Reychel learn to believe in herself enough to escape slavery, find her friend and face a world filled with magic, lies and manipulation?

Anathema is a page turner from start to finish. Things aren’t what they seem in this book at all, not even to the reader, proving that Megg Jensen is truly a master of the plot twist. Loveable characters and a twisting, engaging plot equal a formula to make you want to stay up way past bedtime. Add a cliffhanger ending and it’s enough to leave you wanting more. Perhaps in the next book, you’ll be as careful who you trust as Reychel.

Interesting plot ideas, but the writing seemed a little rushed and the ralationships immature. It seemed like the relationships and interactions are so one demensional.

Awesome book!

You know what I am really enjoying now and days? Characters that are out of the loop. Characters who think themselves as nothing but find out there are something more. For some reason, this story line is really capturing me. And this book hooked me. What an amazing, fresh, read. I can't begin to tell you how much I loved this book. It captured me cause of two things. Characters and plot.




The plot. One thing for sure is that I always love a good plot. Especially when a characters is said to be nothing. Known as nothing. It takes my breathe away when the character is brought up harshly and lied too. It makes the plot much more enduring, more fast paced. If anything, I am hooked even more just to see the character explode into something better.




Character is this book were also amazing. I like when not only a characters changes before your eyes, but grows up too. I love it when a characters see their worth and makes that change right before the readers eyes. Other characters in the book, like the minor ones, weren't so minor. I love that! Seeing a minor character play a bigger role than I ever expected swept me off my feet.




Is this book good? Heck Yeah! Should you read it? Heck Yeah! And if you don't, I will find you and beat you down! Seriously, this book is a great plot filled, amazing characters that takes you off your feet from the very first page. All elements in this book keep you entertain as well as keep you in the story. You feel the characters, become the characters, and you are in the story. Anathema is a curse that will cause you to read this story over and over again. Simply amazing and well written!
